Terriers take a bite out of Mariners’ pitching

CASTINE – The Thomas College Terriers ripped Maine Maritime Academy for 25 hits and swept a softball doubleheader 13-5 and 12-3 Monday afternoon.

In the first game, Kati Morrell had three doubles and four RBIs for Thomas College. Heidi Jesseman and Dee Kelley each had two singles.

For Maine Maritime, Vikki Jones scored two runs.

In the second game, Kelly hit three triples for three RBIs while Courtney Corbett had a single, a triple and a two-shot homer. Kati Morrell had a single and a double.

Christy Cooper and Amanda Wells each had an RBI for Maine Maritime.

Colby sweeps Trinity

At Medford, Mass., Saturday, in the first game, freshman Amy Lisavich pitched a three-hitter leading Colby to victory.

In the fifth and sixth innings Colby scored seven runs with six straight hits in the fifth. Lisavich had two RBIs while Kim Chadwick, Marcy Wagner, Kate Magnuson and Kelly Martin each had two hits for the White Mules.

For Trinity, Tricia Masse had a double and Clare Bullock had an RBI.

In the second game, Stephanie Greenleaf also pitched a three-hitter for Colby. Erica Ayotte had two of Colby’s three RBIs with a double in the third while Magnusen and Martin also had doubles.

Susan Kelly had an RBI double for Trinity.

St. Joseph’s sweeps UMF

At South Portland, Monks pitchers combined to allow only five hits in the twinbill while sweeping UMaine-Farmington 9-0 and 7-1.

In the opener, Charlie Buker pitched six innings of one-hit ball as Saint Joseph’s of Standish continued to roll.

Lucas Hannigan and Adam Newell each stroked a double and a single with two RBIs for Saint Joseph’s of Standish. Jim Becvar hit an RBI double.

Jason Cushman and Nick Potts singled for the Beavers.

In the nightcap, five Saint Joseph’s pitchers teamed up on a three-hitter. Steve Osborne, Dave Wellington and Adam Newell hit run-scoring singles.

Mike Fullerton doubled and singled to pace the Beavers.

Women’s lacrosse

Colby 21, So. Maine 1

At Lewiston, Marcia Ingraham scored four goals and had two assists to lead the White Mules past the Huskies.

Angela Pappas posted three goals and two assists for 4-4 Colby of Waterville, Robin MacColl had two goals and three assists, and Shannon Murphy, Amanda Epstein, Cara Dionisi, Lauren Gremelspacher, and Ashley Martin had two goals each. Anna Scherr and Mary Zito combined for two saves on three shots.

Brooklee White tallied the USM goal, and Stephanie Slater made 22 saves.

Tufts 10, Colby 5

At Lewiston, Tufts scored 7 unanswered goals in the second half to put down Colby on Saturday.

Jen Gregorian scored three goals and had an assist for 5-3 Tufts while Chirstina Orf and Katie Richardson each scored two and had an assist. Dana Chivvis contributed with two goals while Liz Horowitz had one.

For 3-4 Colby, Aly King scored two goals and had an assists while Marcia Ingraham and Whitney Pearce each had a goal and an assist. Lauren Gremelspacher added a goal for the White Mules.
