EAST SULLIVAN – The host Sumner Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Ellsworth 6-5 in the season opener for both teams Monday afternoon.

Stephanie Plaud led the Tigers with two singles.

For Ellsworth, Heidi Chan had two singles and an RBI.

At East Sullivan, Mike Cowperthwaite hit a solo home run, a double and a single for three RBIs, leading Sumner to the win. Cowperthaite also threw ten strikeouts in five innings, giving up only two walks and three hits.

Blake Alley had a triple and single for three RBIs while Jay Huber had two singles and three RBIs for the Tigers.

For Ellsworth, Matt Boles scored two runs and hit an RBI double while Mike Archer scored two and had two RBIs.
