NEWRY – A Plymouth woman is dead after an early morning car accident here Wednesday.

Jennifer Michelle Flye, 18, was killed after the car in which she was riding crossed the centerline and hit a pickup truck head-on, according to the Maine State Police.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m. on Route 2 at the Bear River Bridge.

The car’s driver, Joel Stevens, 25, of Sidney and the truck’s driver, Seth Pitcher, 21, of Hanover were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Flye, a senior at Nokomis Regional High School, is the second SAD 48 student to die unexpectedly this year. In February, Kasey Lander, a pupil at Newport Junior High School, died of smoke inhalation in a house fire in St. Albans.

SAD 48 Superintendent William Braun said the school district is making preparations to offer counseling as needed this week, or when school reopens next week at the Newport-Plymouth schools and Nokomis Regional High School. Braun was awaiting additional information about funeral arrangements to complete the school’s plans.
