A Bangor woman told police she was in fear earlier this week when her estranged husband entered her home and grabbed her and the phone when she tried to call police.
Orville A. “Sonny” Patterson Jr., 53, of Holden was arrested Friday and charged with violation of a protection order and violation of bail conditions. He also was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.
The incident that prompted the charges occurred two days earlier.
As part of a Nov. 4 protection order, Patterson was prohibited from being on the property on the Kittredge Road, although his estranged wife allowed him to drive up to the mouth of the driveway to pick up their son when he had custody.
Apparently angered over custody arrangements this week, Patterson stormed into the home and confronted his wife, arguing with her and then yelling at her, according to the police report. Twice she tried to get him to leave and close the door, but said that Patterson blocked the door each time.
The woman told Bangor police Officer Larry Morrill that as she headed for the phone to call police, Patterson chased after her and grabbed her by the arm and wrist and grabbed the phone. Angry and screaming, he told her she couldn’t call the police and threw the phone down before he left, according to the police report.
Morrill reported that Patterson had been charged on March 8 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and that his license had been suspended earlier this month.
Orono police arrested a 21-year-old Old Town woman after a dispute that began in a minivan and ended in the parking lot of the Thriftway store late Thursday afternoon.
Charged with assault, Heather Bingaman admitted striking her boyfriend of three years after an argument in which he had called her an offensive name, according to the police report. Bingaman told the police that said she had backhanded her boyfriend and Officer Josh Ewing noted redness and a slight abrasion by the man’s right eye.
Bingaman’s 29-year-old boy-friend said that Bingaman was already upset and became more so when, during the drive, he suggested that they separate for a while. He told Ewing that Bingaman began yelling, prompting him to pull into the 7-Eleven and order her out of the minivan. When she refused, he started driving her back home and she began hitting the window and kicking the dashboard.
He then told her to stop being that way and used a derogatory word. He said she hit him in the right eye and on the head, according to Ewing.
Police also learned that the boyfriend had been charged previously with assaulting Bingaman.
