John Bapst beats Bangor in opener

BANGOR – Zach Means went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI to help the John Bapst Crusaders knock off the Bangor Rams in high school baseball action Saturday 4-2.

It was the season-opener for both teams.

Andy Tremble, Billy Chapman, and James Strout each tallied a single and an RBI for the Crusaders of Bangor.

Jim Shea went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles for the Rams as Josh Johnson notched two singles and an RBI.

Caribou 7, MDI 2

At Mount Desert Island, Jerry Shanahan hit two singles and knocked in two runs to lead the Vikings.

Justin Selfridge and Travis Snell chipped in with a single and two RBIs apiece for Caribou.

Bodie Abbott and Basil Mahaney each hit a single and drove in a run for the Trojans. Robbie McLaughlin struck out 10 and walked three in the loss.

Old Town 14, Ellsworth 0

At Ellsworth, Old Town took advantage of walks in the fifth to score nine runs in a win over Ellsworth.

Roger Cole and Aaron Spinney each nailed a two-run single for the Indians.

Mike Archer, Matt Boles, and Asa Jones each singled for Ellsworth.

At Ellsworth, Nick Chase nailed two-run singles in both the fourth and seventh innings to lead Caribou to a win over Ellsworth.

Pitcher Jerry Shanahan struck out 10 for the Vikings as Travis Snell notched two singles with two RBIs. Shanahan gave way to relief help in the fifth inning, then returned with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh. He struck out the final two batters to end the game.

Garrett Hardeson tallied a double and a single with two RBIs for the Eagles while Asa Jones ripped two singles with an RBI.

Mattanawcook sweeps Sumner

At East Sullivan, Mattanawcook rolled over Sumner in both games.

In game one, Mike Springer nailed a two-run double in the fifth inning to put the Lynx of Lincoln in the lead. Pitcher John Crocker allowed only three hits and struck out six.

Mike Cowperthwaite led the Tigers with an RBI double while Dustin Young singled with an RBI.

In game two, Matt Malone pitched a three-hitter with no walks and 12 strikeouts and also nailed an RBI single to lead Mattanawcook.

J.J. Murchinson singled twice with an RBI and scored a run for the Lynx.

J.J. Phinney doubled with an RBI for the Tigers while pitcher Mike Hardy tallied seven strikeouts with only three walks.

At Brewer, Warren Chase nailed a three-run triple for the Bucks as they rolled over Brewer.

Jason Harvey doubled twice with an RBI for the Golden Bucks while Justin Barnes ripped a double with two RBIs.

Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian notched a double and a single with two RBIs for the Witches as both Justin Spencer and Anthony Doucette belted two singles.

At Searsport, Buddy Leavitt rapped a solo homer and a single and earned the pitching win for the Piscataquis Community Pirates.

Leavitt struck out five. Scott DeCastro added a double and a single for Piscataquis of Guilford.

Ben Relyea hit a two-run triple for the Vikings and Jared Kronholm doubled and singled.
