STANDISH – Sarah Webster of St. Joseph’s pitched a five-inning one-hitter in the 8-0 first game, while the University of Maine-Farmington rallied for a 12-inning, 3-2 win in the nightcap as the teams split a Maine Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Cortney Sirois paced the Monks in the first game with two singles, a double, and an RBI, and Sarah Ouellette drove in three runs.

In the second game, Richelle Dube had three singles and Becky Roak had two to pace the Beavers.

Webster had two singles, a double, and an RBI for the Monks, and Deirdre Regan, Becca Nault, and Kelly Premo added three singles apiece.

Bowdoin sweeps Bates

At Brunswick, Erin Hanley pitched a four-hitter and Jessie Poulin scattered six hits as Bowdoin swept Bates 6-2 and 4-2.

In the opener, Jordan Alper doubled and singled to pace the Polar Bears’ 11-hit attack. Krissie Whiting doubled and singled for Bates College of Lewiston.

In Game 2, Liz Swedock hit a two-run homer in the second inning and added an RBI single in the third for the winners. Anna Wulfleff had an RBI single for the Bobcats.

At Gorham, freshman righthander Adam Lemieux earned his first collegiate win and the University of Southern Maine Huskies turned a school record five double plays to beat the Polar Bears of Brunswick.

Lemieux scattered eight hits and was backed by a Craig Gureckis two-run home run and three singles by Colin Loveless.

Kevin Bougie recorded four singles for Bowdoin.

Monks rout UMPI twice

At Bangor Sunday, St. Joseph’s College recorded two upsets against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

St. Joseph’s Matt Gilbert gave up only three hits to the Owls in the first game. Jesse LaCasse led the Monks with two doubles and a single. Greg Dumais added three singles. Gregory Ingalls, Sam Michaud, and Dustin Armitage hit a single apiece for UMPI.

Nick Mirabello led the Monks in the second game with a triple, a double and two singles. Darren Belskis and Ingalls were the sole hitters for the Owls.
