President Bush is talking day and night about a huge tax cut. This is a tax cut that is a windfall for the wealthy – millionaires like Bush and Cheney.
I’m not against a tax cut. But any tax cut that is going to be fair needs to be a lot smaller and much more equitable than the one Bush is proposing. It needs to meet the needs of ordinary people in America.
Bush promises it all, but he is really locking in tax cuts for the rich that will force Congress in the future to either make big cuts in domestic spending or return to deficit spending. A few years ago everyone – especially Washington – was predicting deficits as far as the eye can see. Now they are predicting surpluses even farther into the future.
