STANDISH – Brent Dan allowed two hits and struck out eight in the first game of a doubleheader as the St. Joseph’s College Monks swept the University of Maine-Farmington 5-0 and 7-2, en route to passing the 30-win mark for the season in baseball action Tuesday.

In the first game, Steve Osborne doubled and singled to drive in two runs for St. Joseph’s. Greg Dumais and Adam Newell chipped in with doubles.

Jeff Bird doubled for UM-Farmington.

In the second game, Jesse Lacasse homered and singled for the Monks. Osborne also hit a homer and Justin Lambert had two RBIs. Jerrett Shaffer gave up three hits and struck out seven in six innings.

Bird led the Beavers with a double, single and one RBI. Zac Reed drove in a run.

At Gorham, Tyler Delorme and Pat McDonough combined for six hits and five RBIs to spark the Huskies.

Delorme capped the scoring with an inside-the-park homer in the seventh and also had two singles and recorded three RBIs. McDonough had a double and single and two RBIs, and Jason Dority added two singles and two RBIs. Todd Southwick picked the win in relief.

Louie Distasi led the White Mules of Waterville with two singles and two RBIs.

So. Maine sweeps Plymouth State

At Plymouth, N.H., the Huskies pounded out 29 hits and scored 19 runs in taking a Little East Conference doubleheader from the Panthers. Southern Maine won the opener 10-2 and the second 9-2.

In the first game, Sarah McLean had a double, two singles, and three RBIs; Larisa Sobey rapped a triple and two singles; Darci Holland had two singles and two RBIs; and Jessie Becher added two singles. Erica Gagnon picked up the win.

Steph Ruel collected an RBI for the Panthers.

In the second game, RBI singles in the fourth inning from Bri Libby and Sunshine Anders sparked the Huskies.

Becky Manson and Renee Heath each contributed a double and two singles, and Sunshine Anders had three singles. Becher earned the victory.

Abby Russell posted a triple and single for the Panthers.
