CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Jarett Mendoza’s three-run homer followed Brian Macchi’s two-run shot in a six-run eighth-inning rally that supplied Boston College with a 12-10 baseball win over the University of Maine Wednesday.

Boston College is now 20-20 while Maine fell to 25-11.

The Bears, who erased a 6-2 deficit with a seven-run sixth-inning rally, took a 10-6 lead into the eighth.

But Mike Hubbard greeted Maine reliever Eric Johnson with a leadoff double and he scored when Matt Lederhos’ single was misplayed by left fielder Mike Ross. One out later, Macchi homered to left to pull BC within 10-9.

Brian Durkin delivered a two-out single and Adam Labelle was brought on to face Jeff Mackor, who walked. Mendoza, a senior center fielder, then pulled his first homer of the season over the right field fence.

Mark Sullivan pitched a perfect ninth to notch his second save. James Dawson picked up the win with 2? innings of four-hit, one-run relief.

Two-run doubles by Matt Reynolds and Quin Peel highlighted Maine’s sixth-inning rally.

Macchi, a junior third baseman, belted three home runs and drove in five runs, Durkin had four base hits, while Lederhos and Joe Kealty had two apiece.

Peel had a pair of doubles among his three hits for Maine. Ross contributed three singles while Reynolds, Pat Tobin, Jon Hambelton and Mike Livulpi had two apiece. Tobin had a solo homer among his two hits. Livulpi, like Reynolds, had a double.

Both teams finished with 15 hits.

UMF, Thomas split

At Waterville, Mike Fullerton nailed a bases-loaded double to help the University of Maine-Farmington beat Thomas in the second game of a doubleheader 9-7 and gain a split. Thomas won the first game 5-1.

Mike Byrd chipped in with two doubles for UMF in the second game. Geoff Burnham paced Thomas with two singles and two RBIs and Travis Hotham slammed an RBI triple.

Burnham earned the win in the first game by tossing a five-hitter. He was backed by three Scott Sibley singles and three RBIs and two Hotham singles.

Bates sweeps UMF

At Lewiston, Bates swept the University of Maine-Farmington 8-7 and 8-3 in the first games on its new Lafayette Street Field.

In the second game, Bates scored six runs in the third, highlighted by Sarah Levine’s solo homer and Cami Dyson’s two-run double. Missy Foster doubled and singled for UMF.

In the first game, Bates rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh as Amanda Beck provided the key hit with a two-run single for the tying and winning runs. Richelle Dube paced UMF with a double and two singles.

At Castine, Melissa Solemina pitched a five-hitter to lift sixth-ranked Mount Ida to a North Atlantic Quarterfinal victory over No. 3 Maine Maritime Academy.

Jessica Johnstone paced Mount Ida of Newton Centre, Mass., with two singles, a triple and two RBIs.

Maygan Hardison had an RBI single for MMA.

At Waterville, Sarah Webster pitched a three-hitter in the first game en route to a twinbill sweep for St. Joseph’s of Standish over Thomas 11-2 and 8-7.

Webster struck out eight while Sue Picard paced the offense with a double and single. Courtney Sirois and Becca Neault each added two singles.

Sirois had three singles to lead St. Joe’s in the second game and Dee Regan added a double and single. Courtney Corbett tripled, singled and drove in five runs for Thomas.

At Brunswick, Colby scored three unanswered goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half – two by senior Angela Pappas – to break open a 5-5 tie.

Ally King paced 6-4 Colby of Waterville with three goals while Angela Pappas and Lauren Gremelspacher each added two. Goalie Anna Shierberl made 16 saves.

Beth Sherman scored four goals for 5-5 Bowdoin and goalie Julia McCombs made 11 saves.
