SAN FRANCISCO – A grand jury has handed up three indictments in the 1999 killing of a filmmaker who grew up in Southwest Harbor, Maine.

Shayne Worcester, 29, was shot in the head and chest and killed May 26, 1999, after being robbed while walking with a friend shortly after midnight in the city’s Russian Hill neighborhood.

Tremain Collier, Santese Edwards and Daniel Morring were named in the indictment. Collier and Edwards were arrested Tuesday. Morring was still at large Thursday.

One of the suspects shot Worcester twice, once in the head, while the victim lay on the ground after he had handed over his wallet, police said.

Worcester, a filmmaker, grew up in Southwest Harbor, but was living in Portland, Maine, at the time of his death.His 1996 film “Reindeer Games” was billed as the “first feature-length film made entirely in Maine” and premiered at the Portland Museum of Art.

Worcester’s father, Mark Worcester, is co-owner of Eastern Maine Recycling Inc. in Southwest Harbor. His mother, Priscilla St. John, is an educator in the Sanford school district.

Neither Mark Worcester nor St. John could be reached for comment Wednesday night.
