Wilkes, Whitney pace Mattanawcook victory

GUILFORD – Delany Wilkes hit a two-run single in a four-run first inning that sent the Mattanawcook Academy baseball team of Lincoln to a 7-5 victory over host Piscataquis Community High School in a battle of 2-0 teams Thursday.

Steven Whitney singled and drove in two runs for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln. Matt Malone doubled and Jeff Murchison added two singles.

Buddy Leavitt hit a solo home run and singled for Piscataquis. Randy Burgess hit a two-run triple in the seventh and Ben Smith added two singles.

Hampden 13, MDI 0

At Hampden, the Broncos took advantage of seven walks and six errors to rack up 13 runs in the fourth inning en route to the win.

Randy Oliver hit two singles and a double to drive in two RBIs for Hampden. Aaron Morrell added a double and Ben Quimby struck out four in five innings.

Bodie Abbot led the Trojans with an RBI single.

At Orono, Chris McHale hit a triple and a single and scored three runs, leading Bucksport to victory.

Justin Barnes had a double and a single while Brian Sullivan had two singles and scored three runs. Adam Sheehan and Jason Harvey each scored three runs.

Mike Violette and Al Glossian both had singles for Orono.

At Old Town, Sean McAuley smashed a three-run homer in the sixth, giving the Indians the win.

Brad Goody pinch hit a two-run double to narrow the lead in the sixth while Shawn Tidwell had a double and a triple for two RBIs. Brian Tewhey had a single and a double.

For Nokomis, John Blair nailed a grand slam while Shawn Henderson had three singles. Mike Jacques had two doubles for two RBIs.

Hermon 7, Ellsworth 2

At Hermon, Phil Cayford spaced five hits and Matt Watson had three singles and three RBIs to guide Hermon past Ellsworth.

Jason Shorey had a pair of base hits and an RBI for the Hawks.

Mike Archer and Garrett Hardison had singles and scored the only Ellsworth runs.

At Lee, Jeremy Ham hurled five innings of two-hit ball and aided his own cause with three singles and three RBIs.

Matt Corbin hit a solo homer and a single; Bruce Stevens tripled and doubled and Nate Dow doubled and singled for Lee with Frank Severance, Blair Emery and Opie MacDonald contributing two singles each.

Mike Albert doubled for Schenck and Drew Fayle knocked in the only run with a single.

At Hampden, Jamie Wells fanned 15 and walked one while allowing just two hits as the Broncos shut out the Trojans.

Emmy Russell led Hampden with two RBIs on a triple and a single. Jen Philbrook tripled, doubled and singled for one RBI. Sarah Lozito added an RBI double.

Abbie Chapman and Bracey Barker singled for Mount Desert Island.

At Lee, the Pandas scored three runs in the fourth to erase a 1-0 deficit and take the lead for good.

With runners on second and third, Ashley Linscott’s drag bunt was fielded by the pitcher, whose throw went wide of first base, scoring both runners. Jessie Kuester then singled in Linscott. Crystal Moors picked up the win.

Beth Chase had a double and single for the Wolverines of East Millinocket. Lynn Farrington took the loss despite striking out six and walking none.

At Guilford, Kari Vance fired a one-hitter, striking out 11 and walking four to power the Lynx of Lincoln.

Kylie Allen doubled and singled twice for Mattanawcook Academy. Chelsea McCasserly singled three times. Desirae Haines singled twice and drove in two runs, while Lacey Whitney hit a two-run single.

Greta Korsman struck out six for the Pirates. Lacie Hanscome singled.

At Old Town, Sarah Metivier tossed a one-hitter, including 10 strikeouts and one walk, for the Indians.

Jessica Paul singled twice and had an RBI. Jamie Higgins hit an RBI double, while Erica Perry and Meghan King each doubled. Emily Ouellette hit a single and drove in a run.

Danielle Clark tallied the lone hit for the Warriors of Newport.

At Orono, Elissa Gordon drove in seven runs with a grand slam and two singles and Jana Richards and Leah Page had four hits apiece to spark Bucksport’s 19-hit attack.

Richards had a triple and three singles good for two RBIs and Page had four base hits and two RBIs. Heather Pelletier had three singles and two RBIs.

Annette Caswell and Jamie Freeman combined on a four-hitter.

Hillary See had two base hits for Orono.
