HEBRON, Ky. – Comair said Friday it will lay off half of its 4,000 nonstriking workers because of the monthlong walkout by its pilots.
The company said the workers were being notified Friday. Their last day will be May 13.
Comair’s 1,350 pilots went on strike March 26 after talks broke down over work rules, retirement, job protection and pay.
Most of the workers to be laid off are in customer service, administrative support and flight attendants. The bulk of the 2,000 remaining employees are maintenance workers.
Comair, the nation’s second-largest regional airline, was carrying about 25,000 passengers a day when it shut down. Comair has flights in 95 cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. It also has a hub in Orlando, Fla.
