Smith no-hits Eagles

LIMESTONE – Phil Smith pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Van Buren Crusaders to a 13-0 schoolboy baseball victory over the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics Monday.

Smith struck out 14 Eagles and walked two in five innings. He aided his own cause with a three-run home run. Eric Ayotte and Zach Cote each doubled for the Crusaders in their opener.

At Harrington, Jordan Kneeland scattered eight hits while striking out 10 to spark the Knights.

Jason Snider paced the winners with three singles and two RBIs. Aaron Caler chipped in with two singles and two RBIs and Doug Sawyer added two singles and an RBI.

Kevin Loughlin doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs and Todd Stevens added two singles and an RBI.

Andy Frost singled three times for Calais, while Russ McLean singled twice. Zack Ludington stroked and RBI double.

Geoff LeBlanc singled twice for Ashland. Jared Jendreau and Bruce Aokers doubled.

At Jonesport-Beals, Darren Kelly pitched a seven-hit shutout, striking out three, to pace the Royals. Kelly helped his own cause with a double, a single and three RBIs.

D.R. Alley had two singles and a double, scoring four runs, for the winners. Alvin Beal doubled and singled.

For Woodland, Marlon Lutz had a double and a single.

At Fort Fairfield, Ben Arato helped lead an 11-hit attack with a double and a single as the Tigers knocked off Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Chris Osgood had a double with three RBIs while Shea Armstrong added a two-run double for the Tigers. Ryan Dorsey, Mickey Browning, and Phil Rockford each singled twice.

Chris Robinson led the Cougars with two doubles and a single. Mark Martin had an RBI double.

Ryan Paradis hit a two-run single to key a four-run sixth inning for the Pioneers of St. Agatha. Aaron Gervais and Andrew Gervais each singled twice.

Erin Grant led hitters with three singles for two RBIs. Brook Courchaine and Kate Farnsworth each had three singles and an RBI while Liz Thompson had a single, a double and an RBI. Ashley Woodward (1 RBI) doubled and singled.

For Machias, Tracy Guptill had a triple.

At Calais, Katie Frost struck out 14 and allowed just two hits as the Blue Devils rolled past the Tigerettes.

Frost also doubled and singled, driving in three runs. Amanda Brown had three singles, Lanna Martin doubled and singled and drove in two runs and Shaunti Hendricks had a pair of singles and two RBIs for Calais.

Sara Ricker and Natalie Smith singled for Shead of Eastport.

Beasley chipped in with a solo homer and RBI single and Kasey Cleary added three singles and two RBIs. Anna Lenentine doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Alyssa Foster singled twice and drove in two runs.

Ashley Pelletier singled in the fifth for the Warriors.

At Fort Fairfield, Michalene Duffy doubled and scored on Lacey Willett’s single to break a 5-5 tie in the two-run, fifth-inning rally and the Cougars put the game away with a seven-run seventh inning.

Morgan Anderson had a two-run single in the seventh and finished with four base hits and three RBIs.

Duffy had a single to go with her double and Megan Libby had two singles and an RBI.

Maranda Butler drove in three for Fort Fairfield with a solo homer and a double and cousin Sabrina Butler added a two-run double.
