Caribou edges Presque Isle Double steal yields winning run

CARIBOU – Andrew Bouchard singled and eventually scored from third on a double steal in the sixth inning to provide what proved to be the winning run Tuesday in Caribou’s 3-2 schoolboy baseball victory over Presque Isle.

Junior righty Jerry Shanahan went the distance for the win, scattering six hits while striking out six and walking five. He also helped his cause with three singles and an RBI.

R.J. Gagnon had two singles for Presque Isle and Ryan Stevens and Marcus Nadeau combined on a seven-hitter.

At Dyer Brook, Adam Bither knocked in seven runs with a double and two singles as the Hawks held off the Warriors.

Matt Day doubled and singled twice for Hodgdon and Derek Nickerson singled twice.

Jeff Swallow stroked a triple and a double for Southern Aroostook. Griffin Hardy singled twice with two RBIs.

At East Millinocket, three pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Katahdin of Sherman Station earned its first win of the season.

Doug Atkinson knocked in two runs with a double and two singles for the Cougars, while Doug Rogerson (2 RBIs) and Chris Robinson each singled twice.

Jarod Desantis hit a two-run home run for Schenck.

At Wisdom, Jason Bouchard drove home what would turn out to be the winning run for Wisdom with an RBI single in the sixth.

Troy Guerrette had three singles while Brad Picard helped out with two singles and a double.

Chris Osgood and Ryan Helstrom each had two singles for Fort Fairfield.

At Houlton, freshman righthander Ryan Schools pitched a three-hitter for his second win in as many decisions, striking out six and walking two.

Billy Washburn had a triple and two singles and drove in two runs for the winners. Jared Sylvia (RBI) had a triple and a single while Ben Weston (2 RBIs), Jesse Henderson and Mike Brown contributed two singles apiece.

Steve Soucy doubled for Madawaska.

At Harrington, Pasco Grove pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking none as the Vikings vanquished the Knights.

At Harrington, Ashley Woodward fired a two-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one, as the Knights prevailed in a battle of unbeatens.

Sarah Snider singled twice with two RBIs for Narraguagus, while Brook Courchaine doubled twice. Woodward helped her own cause with two singles and an RBI.

Tina Barton and Erica Curtis singled for Searsport.

At Ashland, junior righthander Karen Spooner scattered three hits, striking out eight and walking one, and aided her own cause with a two-run single to pace Ashland.

Ashland used four walks, Leslie Bessey’s RBI bunt single and Kim Oakes’ base hit to produce five fourth-inning runs that broke a 2-2 tie.

Danielle Gagnon doubled and singled for Van Buren and Nicole Corbin had an RBI triple.

At Ellsworth, Ashley Dugas pitched a three-hitter, helping the Eagles secure the win.

Sarah Silsby had a grand slam, two singles and scored three runs while Katie Sirois and Becca Saunders each had two singles and two RBIs. Mallory Patten had a two-run double while Hiedi Chan hit a solo homer and a single.

At Sherman Station, the Cougars scored four runs with the aid of two errors in the sixth to eke out the victory.

Lacey Willett knocked in four runs with two doubles and a single and Angie Qualey singled twice with four RBIs for Katahdin. Morgan Anderson doubled and singled and Kasi Rush singled twice.

Staci Bell doubled and singled for Greater Houlton Christian Academy.

At St. Agatha, Kelly Cyr pitched a three-hitter, striking out four and walking three, and she broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run single in the third.

Cyr and Tina Picard had two singles each while Nina Michaud, Christa Lizotte and Robyn Dyment contributed two-run doubles.

Keely Sayers, Brooke McCrum and Terri Lynch had singles for Fort Fairfield.

On Monday in Mars Hill, the Pioneers upended Central Aroostook 19-2 behind Cyr’s 12-strikeout two-hitter.

Michaud had a homer and four singles; Cyr tripled, doubled and singled; Cindy Chamberland had a double and two singles and Picard singled twice.

Jocelyn Carvell and Gabe Smith singled for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Angie Hogan, Tiffany Pooler, Sarah Carnes and Cindy Koscielny each singled for the Tigers.

At Guilford, Greta Korsman struck out four and allowed only three hits and one run, helping give Piscataquis the win.

Lacey Hanscom hit three singles and two RBIs while Meagan Galuski had two singles. Stephanie Wentworth singled and scored.

For Central of Corinth, Stephanie Partridge had an RBI single while Shawna Bell had a single and scored the only run. Katie Stetson chipped in with a single.
