Fullerton propels Beavers

FARMINGTON – Mike Fullerton homered and singled in the second game Tuesday, lifting the University of Maine-Farmington to a 15-4 victory and a sweep of their doubleheader against Bates College of Lewiston.

The Beavers won the opener 7-6.

James Writer, Jeff Bird and Jason Cushman each singled twice in the nightcap. Jason Pinkham singled twice for Bates.

In the opener, Fullerton walked and eventually came home on an outfield error. Fullerton homered and singled to pace UMF. Ben Bines doubled and singled for Bates.

At Waterville Monday, Colby hit three home runs in beating UMaine-Farmington.

Kevin Brunelle hit a solo homer and singled. Brandon Irwin ripped a two-run shot and singled, and John Lord belted a solo homer and singled.

Keith LeBlanc doubled and singled to pace the Beavers. Tom Ventura hit a two-run homer.

At Waterville, Kim Chadwick drove Meaghan Shea home with the winning run in the 13th inning on an opposite-field single.

Shea reached on an error and stole second before Chadwick’s hit. Kate Dalton and Jess Fitzgerald each had two hits and an RBI.

Thomas’ Heather Farrell took the tough loss, going all 13 innings.

Saint Joseph’s, USM split

At Standish, Kristen Gaudette pitched a nine-inning, two-hitter in the opener, helping the Monks split their doubleheader.

Saint Joseph’s won the opener 2-1 and Southern Maine took the nightcap 2-0 on a combined shutout by Larisa Sobey and Jessie Becher.

In the opener, the Monks scored the game-winner in the ninth. Gaudette hit an RBI single for the winners. Becher and Sunshine Anders singled for USM.

In Game 2, Becher earned the win with four innings of shutout relief and hit two singles (RBI). Renee Heath and Darcy Holland singled twice each for the Huskies.

Becca Nault singled twice for Saint Joseph’s.

At Waterville, Marcia Ingraham scored the game-winner with 38 seconds left to give No. 4 Colby College the win over Tufts to advance to the NESCAC Final Four.

Angela Pappas led the 9-4 White Mules with four goals.
