WATERVILLE – Freshman Angela Douglass earned her first collegiate win for the Maine Black Bears, holding Colby College to two runs on five hits in her four-inning stint and helping Maine post a 5-2 softball victory Wednesday.
Douglass, who played high school ball at Deer Isle-Stonington, struck out two and walked four in the victory. Leigh Ann Hlywak rapped two singles to lead the eight-hit UMaine attack.
Carrie Morin had two singles for the White Mules.

At Lewiston, Tom Ventura’s grand slam homer helped enable the Beavers to overcome four Bates homers.
Ventura had three hits as did Jeff Bird and Dan Currier. Mike Fullerton and Keith Leblanc had two apiece. Leblanc and Fullerton had doubles.
Ben Donaldson, Matt Pound, Jeff Shouldice and Ben Bines homered for Bates. Bines and Pound had three hits each. Bines also had a triple. Nate Maxwell doubled and singled and while Rob Maguire and Jason Pinkham had two singles apiece.
Zac Reed picked up the win in relief with ninth-inning help from Fullerton.
