Frost single in eighth gives Minutemen win Stearns has to hold off Central in bottom of inning

CORINTH – Dan Frost hit a single to left field in the top of the eighth inning that scored Dan Qualey and Jason Cummings and lifted the Stearns Minutemen to a 12-11 high school baseball win over Central Thursday afternoon.

Nick Beaulieu hit a two-run double and added a single for Stearns of Millinocket. Ryan Sweeney singled twice and drove in two runs. Matt Burnett hit a triple and single and added an RBI.

Mike Strout paced the Red Devils with a double, single, and three RBIs. James Gray drove in two runs on two singles. Billy Kane and Joe Allen each singled twice and tallied an RBI.

At Newport, the Ponies took advantage of nine Warrior errors to rally from 10-4 down and pick up the win.

Seth Gabarro hit a triple, a single, and knocked in three runs for Foxcroft. Chris Chambers had a pair of RBI singles, and Chris Walker had two singles.

Shawn Henderson paced the Warriors with a three-run double. Ian Buzzanoski knocked a two-run single, and Tyler MacKenzie hit a pair of singles.

At Hampden, Brian Tewhey belted a three-run homer as the Indians cruised.

Ben Clark also smacked a three-run shot for the winners. Brad Goody hit a double and a single. Jason Robbins pitched a one-hitter, striking out nine.

Matt Jackson’s double was the Broncos’ only hit.

At Bangor, Jim Shea’s two-run double keyed a six-run sixth inning that broke open a close game as the Rams downed the Trojans.

Shea finished the game with two singles and three RBI, while Justin Libbey had a double and a single and Josh Johnson and Ryan Worcester had two singles apiece for Bangor.

Josh Schlaffer drove in both MDI runs with a single.

At Ellsworth, the Witches scored four runs in the second inning to take control.

Joe Griffin led Brewer with a double, single, and two RBIs; Chris Cote added a double, single, and one RBI; and Zac Bouzan-Kaloustian had two singles and an RBI. Chad Gomm picked up the win.

Justin Gott had an RBI single for the Eagles, and Mike Archer rapped a double.

At Bingham, Dan Campbell’s two-run double and Richard Folsom’s run-scoring single keyed a seven-run second-inning rally that broke the game open.

Tom Mason had a double and a single, drove in two runs, and scored three times for the winners and Rory Owens contributed a triple.

Charlie Rollins and Corey Hibbard each doubled and singled for Valley and Jeremy Jones had two base hits. Rollins had three RBIs while Hibbard and Jones had one each.

At Lee, Jeremy Ham hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth as the Pandas won a wild one.

Bruce Stevens belted two homers, a two-run shot and a solo blast, for the winners. Matt Corbin hit an RBI single and a double. Blair Emery added a double and two singles. Franklin Grant got out of a seventh-inning jam to force extra frames. He struck out five in two innings, including the side in the eighth.

Randy Burgess blasted a two-run homer for the Pirates of Guilford. Dennis Glynn had a pair of RBI doubles.

At Orono, Ron Lane’s run-scoring single broke a 3-3 tie in the two-run sixth-inning rally and he had one of four seventh-inning RBI singles as Hermon remained undefeated.

Jason Shorey, Matt Watson, and Mike Ketchum had the other RBI singles in the seventh as Hermon built an 8-3 cushion.

Lane had three singles while Ketchum, Watson, Josh Shorey and winning pitcher Ryan Garland contributed two apiece. Ketchum and Lane had two RBIs each, Watson had one, and Garland had a double among his hits.

Mike Merritt had a double and two singles for Orono with Bo Thomas, Ryan Levesque, and Pat Skall chipping in two base hits apiece. Levesque had an RBI and Alex Bagley had a two-run single.

At Sherman Station, Doug Atkinson knocked in the game-winner with a single to lift the Cougars.

Atkinson added another single, a triple, and an RBI. Chris McNally notched a pair of singles, a triple, and drove in a run.

Corey Shields belted a two-run homer for the Warriors of Dyer Brook. Jared Grant hit two singles.

At Ellsworth, Jenny Higgins belted a two-run homer and scored two runs to lead the Witches to victory.

Sherri Capponi pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up only two singles. She also had a single and a double at the plate. Amy Freeman had two singles and scored twice.

Sarah Silsby and Hiedi Chan provided Ellsworth’s only hits with singles.

At Lee, righthander Crystal Moors scattered five hits while walking two to lead Lee.

Danielle Jipson slammed a two-run double for Lee and Ashley Linscott added a run-scoring single.

Ivy Galuski notched an RBI single for Piscataquis Community of Guilford.

At Newport, Lindsey Welch belted a game-winning solo homer leading off in the last of the seventh to decide it.

Nicole Palmer hit an RBI triple for the winners. Laura Pelkey blasted a triple, and Megan Randlett hit a double and a single.

Leigh Cartwright blasted a two-run homer for the Ponies. She also had two singles.

Lakers sweep Cavaliers

At Bingham, the Greenville Lakers exploded for 33 runs in a doubleheader, sweeping Valley 17-4 and 16-3.

In the first game, Laura Blair hit a two-run double for the Lakers while Diane Aucoin smacked a triple.

Megan Melcher and Melanie Vicenire each had two singles to lead the Cavaliers.

In the second game, Aucoin ripped a pair of two-run doubles for Greenville, totaling four RBIs on the game. Michaella Bartley belted a pair of doubles.

Alaina Frigon smacked an RBI double for Valley, while Beth Colbeth and Beth Collins each tripled.

At Hampden, the undefeated Indians scored five unearned runs in the first inning and held on.

Meghan King, Emily Ouellette, Erica Perry, Sarah Metivier and Renee Thibodeau each singled for Old Town.

Jen Philbrook, Shannon Pitula and Jessica Aylward each rapped two singles for the Broncos. Wendy Butler scored the only earned run of the game when she stole home in the sixth.

At Orono, Krystal Terrill singled twice and drove in three runs to power the Hawks past the Red Riots.

Hermon’s Briana Bruce hit three singles and had one RBI. Morgan Burr hit four singles.

Hadley See led Orono with a two-run double and a single. Marilyn Nichols singled twice.

At Corinth, Renee Trafton’s two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the eighth gave Central its first win.

Terri Underhill’s RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh had forced extra innings.

Central, which overcame 8-3 and 12-6 deficits, received a double, three singles and three RBIs from Jen Allen. Amy Shaw had two singles and two RBIs, Jess Kaelin had two base hits and one RBI and Underhill had a triple and two RBIs.

Becca Saucier had a double, two singles and two RBIs for Stearns.

Michaline Duffy chipped in with two singles, a double, and two RBIs for the winners, and Lacy Willett singled twice.

Kristi Brooker singled twice and drove in two runs for Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.

Erin Foster had a double, a single, and an RBI for the Hawks.
