SCARBOROUGH – Windham’s Barry Babb surged past pole-sitter Jackie Roussel of Gorham en route to winning his first NASCAR Late Model Pro Series 40-lap feature this season at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Saturday night.

The youngest member of the racing Babb family emerged victorious from a four-way battle between him, brother Bobby Babb, Bobby Gahan of Barrington, N.H., and Jason Fowler of Scarborough. Bobby Babb settled for second while Gahan was third, Fowler fourth, and Jeff Morgan of Saco fifth.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford, Sunday was student day at Oxford Plains Speedway as Fryeburg Academy senior Travis Khiel, the starting quarterback for the Raiders football team, started seventh but finished first in the 35-lap Pro Stock feature race Sunday.

A Denmark resident, Khiel chased down veteran Glenn Josselyn on lap 26 and took the lead for good. Josselyn finished second for his first top-three finish in many races.

In the 30-lap Late Model Stock Car division race, another senior led the first 23 laps, but Tim Cook of Poland took over the lead and held it for the last seven. The senior, T.J. Brackett of Oxford, was runner-up.

At Hermon, Aaron St. Peter of Brewer came back from an early crash to inherit the lead in the last lap and win the 35-lap Pro Stock feature Sunday.

St. Peter sped past a John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor on the last straightaway after Phippen spun out while trying to preserve a car-length lead on the final circuit.

Mike Thomas of Etna finshed second while Pat Thibodeau of Winterport took third.
