OXFORD – Two people were killed and three injured in a weekend crash on Route 26 in this western Maine town.
The collision took place shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday when a car apparently crossed the centerline into the opposite lane and struck a pickup truck head-on, said Trooper Adam Fillebrown of the Maine State Police.
Killed in the crash were Chanel Hall, 19, of Norway, who was a passenger in the car, and Carolyne McMillan, 35, of South Paris, a passenger in the pickup, according to Fillebrown. The injured included the driver of the car, identified as Gabrielle Haase, 20, of Scarborough, and the driver of the truck, John Violette, 33, of South Paris. Haase and Violette both were listed in critical condition.
Also injured was Eric Bray, 20, of the Portland area. Bray underwent surgery and there was no immediate word on his condition, Fillebrown said.
The trooper said it was not clear what caused the car to veer out of its lane.
The crash remained under investigation.
