MACHIAS – Ashley Woodward allowed only one hit while striking out 16 and not walking a batter to lead the Narraguagus Knights to a 1-0 schoolgirl softball victory over the Machias Bulldogs Monday.

Kate Farnsworth singled in Brook Courchaine in the third for the game’s only run for the Knights of Harrington. Courchaine singled, stole second and then scored on Farnsworth’s single.

Jenny Grant reached Woodward for a fifth-inning single. Tracy Guptill, who allowed only four hits and didn’t walk a batter, was the hard-luck loser.

At Houlton, Valerie Lenentine knocked in Danielle Hagerman with a sixth-inning single, lifting the Shiretowners to victory.

Lenentine also belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Sarah Beasley tripled and singled.

Kelly McHatten singled four times for Presque Isle, Melissa Pelletier had three singles, Lauren Wildeman doubled and singled and Jessie Miller singled twice.

Sarah Ricker doubled twice, tripled and drove in a run for Shead of Eastport. Sam Davis added two singles and a double and Nadine Bedford tripled, singled and drove in two runs.

Lanna Martin paced Calais with two singles and two RBIs. Crystal Martin, Kari Redding and Mia Silverthorne provided two singles and an RBI apiece.

Naomi Chandler singled twice for Jonesport-Beals.

At Limestone, the Warriors’ eight-run third inning was the difference against the Eagles.

Rhonda Chambers doubled twice and singled with an RBI and Kristi Brooker singled three times (RBI) to pace Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook. Meghan McLaughlin and Brandi Crandall each had two singles and an RBI and Misty Violette singled twice.

Melissa St. Pierre and Sharee Dilda led Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics with two singles and two RBIs each. Michelle Cook and Louise Philbrick had two singles each and Nikki Michaud had a single and two RBIs.

Libby also singled, finishing the game with five runs batted in. Lacy Willett had a triple and a single and Casey Duffy-Stanley doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Leslie Bessey had two singles and Pam Bennett doubled for Ashland.

At East Sullivan, senior Jill Osier tossed her second abbreviated no-hitter in four days to propel the Tigers past Deer Isle-Stonington

Osier struck out nine and walked four in a game shortened to 41/2 innings by the 12-run rule. She also pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Stearns on Friday.

Meghan Ruhlin singled twice and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Rachel Philio and Osier contributed two singles apiece.

Matt Lord stroked four singles for the Dragons. Billy Romanelli hit a triple and two singles, Andrew Knapp tripled and doubled with three RBIs, Rick Roussel doubled and singled and Chad Pike singled twice.

Jeff Swallow drove in two runs on a single in the first for the Warriors of Dyer Brook. Pinch-hitter Nate Porter added an RBI double.

Highview, Washburn split

At Kenduskeag, Washburn picked up its second win of the season with a 15-2 decision in the first game and Highview Christian Academy notched its first with a 27-2 verdict in the second game.

In the first game, back-to-back home runs by Chris Tupper (two-run) and Jay Maynard jump-started a five-run inning and the Beavers never looked back.

In the second game, eighth-grader Cameron Smith belted a three-run shot in the fourth to fuel the second of four straight big innings offensively.

At Van Buren, Phil Smith’s three-run double keyed a 10-run third inning for the Crusaders as Van Buren rolled by the Warriors.

Smith finished the game with three doubles and six RBIs, while Zach Cote doubled, singled and scored four runs and Stacy Ayotte drove in three runs on a pair of singles.

Kirk Levesque homered and doubled for Fort Kent.

Strout led the Central offense with a triple, a double, a single and three RBIs. Gray doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Andy Matulis added a triple and two RBIs and Billy Kane hit a solo home run.

Chuck Wooten paced Penquis of Milo with a triple, a single and an RBI.

Brad Wheaton tossed a two-hitter for Stearns, striking out 12 without walking a batter. Wheaton also doubled and singled.

John Crocker limited the Minutemen to three hits. Fred Pete doubled for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Mike Archer and Derek Awalt each hit an RBI double for the Eagles. Matt Boles singled twice.
