Mike Collar

Mike Collar of the University of Maine has been named the America East Baseball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. The freshman righthander from Scarborough pitched a six-hit shutout Sunday against Vermont, striking seven without issuing a walk. Collar is 7-0.

Evan Thomas

Evan Thomas of the University of Maine-Presque Isle has been named one of the school’s Athletes of the Year. Thomas, a sophomore cross country runner, won the Dirigo Cup and the Maine Athletic Conference championship this past season. He was third in the NAIA Regional Championships and 60th out of 225 runners at the NAIA National Championships.

Rachel Underwood

Rachel Underwood, a senior starter on the volleyball and basketball teams, has been named an Athlete of the Year by the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Underwood helped lead the Owls’ volleyball team to a second-place finish in the Maine Athletic Conference and as a basketball player was the MVP of the Nichols College Tournament and made the All-Tourney team at the St. Thomas Invitational.
