Former offenders drop concession stand offer

FALMOUTH – Two convicted child sex offenders who offered to run a concession stand at the town Little League fields dropped their offer after police photos and descriptions of the two men were circulated.

Police Chief Edward Tolan supplied “Neighborhood Policing Bulletins” outlining the men’s criminal histories to the league’s board of directors, who circulated them among coaches and parents.

“They had made the overt attempt to go to the Little League to get involved,” said Tolan, who also is a Little League parent and coach. “We would never have distributed these fliers except for the fact they went to the Little League.”

A local restaurant has since agreed to run the concession stand.

Eugene Weir, 47, who lives in Cumberland and spent nine years in jail in Massachusetts, said he and John Corbin dropped the idea after calculating the cost and work involved. He said the men would not have been alone with children even if they had run the stand.

Corbin, 45, who has a Portland address and is pictured on the other flier circulating in Falmouth, referred questions to his attorney. Corbin has a record in California.

The lawyer, Michael Waxman, said Corbin had not planned to work at the stand personally.
