Day, Hasselman power Bulldogs

MACHIAS – Jarad Day hurled a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks to lead Machias to a 5-1 victory over Calais Wednesday in high school baseball action.

Will Hasselmann hit a two-run double in the fifth for the Bulldogs. Jamie Hall singled and added a two-run double in the second.

Scott Lynch led the Blue Devils with two singles and an RBI. Joe Footer doubled.

At Lee, Matt Corbin smacked a two-run triple in the fourth to provide the game-winning runs in the Pandas’ victory.

Bruce Stevens singled three times and drove in a run for Lee. Rob Noonan, Andy Ham and Franklin Grant combined on a two-hitter.

Rick Russell and Marlon Lutz each hit an RBI single for the Dragons.

At Madawaska, Bill Washburn threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks as the Shiretowners rolled to the win in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Jared Sylvia, Jesse Henderson and Derek Dow each singled twice for Houlton. Paul Kane and Mike Brown doubled.

Steve Guerrette registered a single for the Owls’ lone hit.

At Van Buren, Eric Ayotte, pitching his first high school game, settled down after giving up six runs in the first inning as the Crusaders remained unbeaten.

Zach Cote belted a two-run homer to go with a two-run single for Van Buren. Stacy Ayotte had a single, double and RBI for the Crusdaers. Tyler Hughes had an RBI single.

Ryan Dorsey and Kevin Osgood each had RBI singles for the Tigers.

Randall Perry and Geoff LeBlanc had two singles each for Ashland and Perry had an RBI.

At Bangor, Dave Chrisos allowed just four hits and helped himself with three singles and an RBI as the Patriots cruised.

Corey Jeskey drove in two runs on a double and a single. Nick Harriman doubled and hit a two-run single. Allen Easley singled twice.

Chris Robinson and Lucas Heath led the Cougars of Sherman Station with an RBI single and a double, respectively.

At Caribou, Meghan Cole-Karagory knocked in four runs to lead the Vikings to the win.

Jamie Landeen and Leah Drew each had two singles for Caribou. Ashley Monahan smacked a double and a single.

Nicole Saucier hit two singles for the Warriors.

At Lee, Deidra Ham led Lee Academy’s 15-hit attack with a double and two singles.

Katie Smith and Alicia Vose each singled twice for the Dragons.

Jen Savard added a double and a single for Washington Academy of East Machias while Miranda Fergerson jolted a two-run homer.

Brandy Lingley cracked a solo homer and Valerie Bouchard rapped an RBI single for the Tigerettes.

At Ashland, Danielle Fitzpatrick of Hodgdon threw out Ashland’s Andrea Millett at the plate in the seventh inning to stop an Ashland rally as the Hawks won.

Erin Foster smacked an RBI triple for the winners while Sara Quint put out a double.

Amanda Marin had a triple and two RBIs for the Hornets. Millett hit a pair of RBI singles.

At Van Buren, run-scoring singles by Maranda Butler and Dani Searles in the eighth inning keyed a three-run rally that decided it.

Searles’ RBI double in the four-run seventh-inning rally helped erase a 15-12 deficit but Danielle Gagnon’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings. Nikki Rogeski singled three times and drove in two runs.

Gagnon had two doubles and two singles and three RBIs for Van Buren.

At Madawaska, Ciara Cyr and Emily Lavertu each knocked in two runs as the Owls topped the Tigers.

Sarah Dufour, Kelly Martin and Ashley Bouchard each singled twice for Madawaska. The Owls also took advantage of nine walks.

Terri Lynch singled twice and Ellie Arato hit a double and single for Fort Fairfield. Keely Sayers drove in five runs.

Katahdin 9, Bangor Christian 8

At Bangor, the Cougars of Sherman Station built up a 9-3 lead after 61/2 innings and withstood a furious rally in the bottom of the seventh to post the win.

Bangor Christian scored five runs and still had the bases loaded with nobody out in the seventh before three straight fly balls ended the threat.

Lacey Willette doubled and singled twice for the Cougars while Michalene Duffy lashed a two-run double and a single. Morgan Melanson singled twice.

Gabby Eastman stroked three singles and drove in two runs for the Patriots. Lisa Phinney added two doubles and two RBIs.
