Utility board director leaves after 22 years

PRESQUE ISLE – Donald F. Collins, a member of the board of directors of Maine Public Service, will retire in May after 22 years with the northern Maine electric utility.

Collins is a former Maine senator and retired president of S.W. Collins Co., a lumber and hardware business in Caribou and Presque Isle. Collins replaced his father, Samuel W. Collins Sr., on the board in 1979. His father also had been a Maine legislator and a member of the utility’s board since 1947.

MPS contributed $1,000 to the University of Maine Foundation, to be designated to the Samuel W. Collins Fund, established in 1999 by Donald F. Collins, H. Douglas Collins, and Patricia McGuigan Collins to benefit Aroostook County high school graduates.
