MA’s Vance shuts down Schenck

LINCOLN – Kari Vance struck out 13 of the 16 batters she faced en route to a five-inning one-hitter as Mattanawcook Academy defeated Schenck 13-1 in schoolgirl softball action Monday.

Vance has allowed only eight hits in 12 games this season. She left one game early with an injury.

Vance also rapped a triple and a single and drove in two runs for the Lynx. Carly Mansur stroked three singles and Desirae Haines singled twice. Each drove in a run.

Alicia Cram singled and scored for the Schenck Wolverines of East Millinocket.

Dexter 17, Central 5

At East Corinth, Tiffany Pooler had two singles and two RBIs, leading Dexter to the win.

Kristy Veazie and Frankie Gohm each hit three singles for the Tigers while Karen Nelson and Ashley Foster both had two singles.

For Central, Shawna Bell drove in two on two singles while Amy Shaw had two singles. Stephanie Partridge tripled.

At Foxcroft, Heidi Chan led Ellsworth with a two-run homer, a triple and a single.

Sarah Silsby had a triple and a double for four RBIs and Krystal Roberts had two doubles and a single for two RBIs.

Alyssa Snow hit a two-run triple for Foxcroft and Mandi Murray doubled twice.

At Charleston, Katie Smith belted a homer and also singled three times to power Woodland past Highview Christian.

Smith was also the winning pitcher.

Natasha Hussey tripled and Nick Richards doubled and knocked in a run for Highview Christian.

At Belfast, Camden Hills’ Toni-Lynn Robbins outdueled Morgan Crandall on the mound with a three-hitter, but it was Crandall who got the win, thanks to Sara McIntire’s RBI single in the fifth.

Crandall struck out seven and walked none.

Tara Wood hit a solo home run for Camden Hiils’ only score. Amy Lees tripled while Liv Mitchell and Brittany Laite each doubled.

At Bucksport, Elissa Gordon knocked in four runs with three singles for the Golden Bucks.

Jana Richards singled four times and Annette Caswell stroked three singles. Heather Pelletier and Leah Page added two singles each.

Krystal Terrill singled and scored for Hermon.

At East Sullivan, Diana Bourdeau scattered four hits while striking out 10 to lead the Raiders of East Machias.

Miranda Fergerson added an RBI single for the winners.

Rachel Philio notched an RBI double and singled for Sumner and Cathy Emerton contributed an RBI single.

At Thomaston, Lindsey Barlow struck out eight, walked three and allowed only two hits and one run to lead the Buccaneers to victory.

Crystal Rogers had four singles and two RBIs while Rachel Campbell had three singles and two RBIs for the winners. Amanda Dinesmore batted in two with a double and a single and Rachel Strong had a triple and a double for an RBI.

For Telstar, Lynsey Brown and Amber Bachelds each singled.

At Deer Isle, Lindsay Seekings had a triple, three singles, and five RBIs to lead a 16-hit attack by Searsport.

Tina Barton had a triple, two singles, and two RBIs. Lura Carroll had three singles and two RBIs for the winners.

For the Mariners, Jamie Thompson tripled, doubled, and singled twice for six RBIs. Heather Bray belted a solo homer in the fifth and hit three singles for four RBIs. Meghan Wiberg had a triple three singles, and four RBIs. Starting pitcher Tara Lee Webster left the game in the second after getting hit by a batted ball in the thumb.

At Millinocket, Nicole Davis’ two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in Jessica Jandreau with the winning run as the Minutemen edged the Howlers.

Kristina MacKenzie had three singles, a double, drove in five runs, and scored three more. Jordan Legassey had three singles, three RBIs, and scored three runs for the winners. Jandreau singled twice, doubled, and had two RBIs and Davis singled three times and drove in three runs for Stearns.

Erika Cole had a triple, double, two singles, and four RBIs to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland. Toni Babineau doubled, singled, and drove in four runs, and Nancy Hallett had three singles and three RBIs.

At Bucksport, Marcus Boober’s two-out ground-ball single to center scored Justin Barnes from second to give Bucksport the win.

Barnes singled to open the inning and stole second.

Chris McHale pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking three, to beat Ryan Garland.

Garland allowed only three hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

Hermon rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie it on RBI singles by Ron Lane in the fifth and Andrew Eaton in the sixth.

Jason Harvey had a double for the Bucks and Gavin Speaker doubled for Hermon.

At Corinth, Billy Kane’s two-run homer in the three-run first inning sent the Red Devils on their way.

James Gray had a double and two singles and drove in two runs for Central. Mike Strout and Robbie Girvan had two singles and an RBI apiece and Andy Matulis had two base hits.

Matt Foster doubled and singled for Dexter and drove in two runs.

At Millinocket, the Minutemen’s Nick Beaulieu pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and allowing only one run.

Brad Wheaton had a double and a single for two RBIs while Justin Cummings hit a two-run triple and Greg Kronich added a two-run single.

For the Howlers of Howland, Trey Miller and Lance Pelkey each singled.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Joe Ronco’s bases-loaded safety squeeze bunt with no outs in the bottom of the seventh delivered Travis Hewes with the winning run. Hewes had singled to start the inning.

Chris Chambers tripled and singled and had an RBI for Foxcroft; Ryan Taylor doubled and singled and knocked in two, and Kyle Wentworth, Chris Walker, and Hewes had two singles apiece.

Derek Awalt doubled and singled for Ellsworth.

Tom Twombly singled twice for the Huskies. Jake Lasselle, Steve Kennedy, and Chadd Bennett each hit RBI singles.

Jake LaBree singled twice to pace the Rockland Tigers.
