Houlton High School

HOULTON – Michael W. Chadwick, principal of Houlton High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2001. Commencement will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the John Millar Arena. Last Chapel will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Houlton High School auditorium.

Valedictorian is Megan W. Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Miller of Littleton. Salutatorian is Michael G. Sussman, son of Dr. and Mrs. Ted Sussman of Houlton. First honor part is Frank G. Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Henderson of Littleton. Second honor part is Jeremy S. London, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry London of Houlton.

Miller has taken part in academic and extracurricular activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, soccer and basketball teams. She received the Xerox Award for humanities and social sciences, French Award, English Award, and has been chosen Student of the Month. She is the 2001 recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Award. She is a four-year member of the band and served as social service volunteer in the community. She will attend Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., to study genetic biology.

Sussman has been a social service volunteer, worked on the yearbook staff, and was on the student council. He took part in the hockey, tennis and soccer teams, and has been a member of the Houlton High School math team for two years. He was recognized for excellence in English during his junior year when he won the English Award. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and in the summer of 2000 took part in the Proctor Academy Ocean Classroom and was on the crew of a tall ship sailing from the Caribbean to ports along the Eastern Seaboard. He will attend Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., to study history.

Henderson will attend Kettering University, Flint, Mich., to study engineering. He was a member of the math team and high school band and was inducted into National Honor Society.

London will attend Elon College, Elon College, N.C., to study business. He was class president during his junior year, and served as a social service volunteer. He also was a member of Dirigo Boys State and was inducted into National Honor Society. He was a member of the golf and hockey teams.
