Shields double gives Warriors win

DYER BROOK – Cory Shields slammed a two-run double in the fifth inning to give Southern Aroostook an 8-7 high school baseball victory over the Limestone Community/Maine School of Science and Mathematics on Monday.

Jordan Shields chipped in with two singles and two RBIs for the Warriors and Jeff Swallow added a two-run triple.

Dereck Patten and Daniel Buckley each had RBI singles for Limestone.

At Fort Kent, Paul Cain and Mike Brown both had three-run singles, helping lead Houlton to the win.

Bill Washburn pounded out four singles for the Shiretowners while Mike Lenentine hit three.

Kirk Levesque had a two-run homer for Fort Kent, and Corey Bourgoin added a solo home run.

At Sherman Station, Mike Lane cranked a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Cougars the win.

Travis Robinson chipped in with two singles and two RBIs for the winners, and Justin Stevens added a two-run double. Doug Rodgerson notched an RBI double.

Craig Allen had a two-run triple and RBI single for the Panthers of Mars Hill. Jeff Clockedile added a double, single, and two RBIs.

Madawaska 9, Fort Fairfield 2

At Fort Fairfield, Steve Soucy tripled and doubled to drive in two runs and lead the Owls past Fort Fairfield.

Ted McHenry had a triple for Madawaska and also pitched a four-hitter.

Phil Rochford and Kris Osgood each hit an RBI single for the Tigers.

Van Buren sweeps Wisdom

At Van Buren, the Crusaders rolled to a 16-2 five-inning win in the first game of a doubleheader and led Wisdom 15-3 after three innings in a windy and rainy second game before the Pioneers forfeited the game.

In the first game, Stacey Ayotte smacked a two-run homer and two doubles and collected three RBIs to pace Van Buren. Tyler Hews added a double, two singles, and two RBIs; Zach Cote had two doubles, a single, and two RBIs; Phil Smith roped two doubles and knocked in three runs; and Sean Violette singled twice and drove in two.

Ryan Paradis doubled and Todd Thibeault singled in a run for Wisdom of St. Agatha.

In the second game, Van Buren sent nine players to the plate and scored five runs in each of the first three innings before the forfeit win nullified any states accrued to that point.

At East Sullivan, Blake Alley hit a bases-loaded triple in the sixth to lead Sumner to the win.

Alley also had two singles while Mike Cowperthwaite had a two-run double and a solo home run. Justin Winslow hit a double and two singles for three RBIs.

For Washington Academy of East Machias, Steve Colbeth nailed a three-run homer and Nick Reynolds had two RBIs on three singles. Brent Colbeth helped out with two singles and an RBI.

At Sherman Station, the Cougars cranked five home runs and a total of 19 hits.

Michaelene Duffy paced the Cougars with a two-run homer, a solo homer, and RBI single. Also contributing were Morgan Anderson with a two-run homer, RBI double, and single; Megan Libby with a two-run homer, single; Scarlet McAvoy and Angie Qualey with two doubles apiece; Mindy Libby with four singles and five RBIs; K.C. Duffy-Stanley with two singles; and Lacey Willett with a two-run homer.

Gabe Smith doubled, singled, and drove in two runs for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill, and Brittany Lundeen doubled and singled.

At Fort Fairfield, Meghan Marshall had four singles and a home run for five RBIs, leading Madawaska to victory.

Kay Gerard had five singles for two RBIs, while Ciara Cyr drove in four with three singles.

For Fort Fairfield, Keely Seyars had a three-run homer and two singles, and Brooke McCrum hit a double and three singles and had an RBI. Maranda Butler contributed with three RBIs on two singles and a double, and Nikkie Rojeske had a double and three singles and two RBIs.

Melissa Plourde singled twice and drove in a run for Fort Kent, and Betsy Nadeau added a two-run single.

Van Buren 7-11, Wisdom 6-12

At Van Buren, Nina Michaud’s two-run single keyed a six-run fifth-inning rally that erased a 9-6 deficit and enable Wisdom to salvage a split of their twinbill.

The game was called after five innings due to rain and cold weather.

Wisdom overcame its 10 errors and capitalized on 15 walks, including eight in the fifth.

Michaud had two singles for the winners. Micah Laplante had two singles and an RBI for Van Buren and Kristy Wright had a single and three RBIs.

In the opener, Amy Vaillancourt tripled and scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning to give Van Buren its triumph.

Michaud’s three-run homer capped a four-run Wisdom seventh inning that forced extra innings.

Vaillancourt had two doubles to go with her triple and drove in two runs.

Michaud had two singles to go with her homer and drove in four runs for the previously undefeated Pioneers.

Heather Anderson contributed three singles.

At Dyer Brook, Nicki Lyons and Holly Toothaker combined on a two-hitter as the Southern Aroostook Warriors had to come from behind to win.

Toothaker entered the game in the first and picked up the win in relief. Rhonda Chambers led the offense with two doubles, two singles, and three RBIs. Crystal Cameron tripled and doubled, and Lyons had two doubles and four RBIs. Meghan McLaughlin and Kristi Brooker each had three singles.

Michelle Crook hit a two-run single and Nikki Michaud singled for the only hits for Limestone Community/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

At Lincoln, Kari Vance recorded 13 strikeouts among the 16 batters she faced en route to a one-hitter in a game shortened to five innings.

Vance has allowed only eight hits in 12 games this season. She left one game early with an injury.

Vance also rapped a triple and a single and drove in two runs for the Lynx. Carly Mansur stroked three singles and Desirae Haines singled twice. Each drove in a run.

Alicia Cram singled and scored for Schenck of East Millinocket.
