East Grand High School, Danforth

DANFORTH – Matthew Oliver, principal of East Grand High School, has announced honor parts for the Class of 2001. Graduation exercises will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the East Grand High School gymnasium. Class night will be at 6 p.m. June 6, at the gym.

Valedictorian is Tara Lynn Cropley, daughter of Anthony and Tammy Cropley of Brookton. She has received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the last four years. She is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and Who’s Who Among American Sports. She was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State and is recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Award. She won the Maine Scholars Achievement Award in her junior year and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was served as vice president and on the public relations and consequence committees. She also was president, vice president, and secretary of the Student Council, a yearbook staff member, a member of many drama productions and was Winter Carnival princess during her sophomore year.

She was active in varsity soccer, basketball and softball and was captain in all three during her junior and senior years. She was in the Aroostook County All-Star Basketball Classic and was an Eastern Maine All-Star soccer player and excelled in Basketball Junior Nationals.

She received the Top Scholar Award and a full tuition scholarship to the University of Maine.

Lindsay Marie Faulkner, daughter of Robin and Tonya Faulkner of Wytopitlock, is salutatorian. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council and has been vice president and treasurer of both groups. She was a recipient of the Maine Scholars Achievement Award and chosen to attend Girls State. She has held many roles in drama productions and been a member of the yearbook staff and worked on Winter Carnival planning and preparation. She is a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

She was active in varsity soccer, basketball and softball and was captain all three sports. She received the United States Army Most Valuable Soccer Player Award in her senior year and was chosen to the Aroostook County All-Star Basketball Classic.

She is one of two Top Scholar Award winners and has the opportunity of a full-tuition scholarship at the University of Maine.

First honor essayist is Jessica Nicole Knights, daughter of Roland and Lynda Knights of Bancroft. She will attend the University of Maine nursing program.

Second honor essayist is Samantha Dawn Goforth, daughter of Patrick and Norma Goforth of Weston. She has been accepted by the University of Maine, University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Southern Maine and Thomas College.
