Frost fires 3-hitter, Calais Blue Devils top Woodland

CALAIS – Katie Frost pitched a three-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one, and she also had a pair of singles to pace Calais to a 3-0 high school softball win over Woodland Wednesday.

Frost singled and scored what proved to be the winning run on Amanda Brown’s one-out base hit in the fourth and she added an RBI single in the two-run fifth.

Jamie Doliber also had two singles for Calais.

Jocelyn Leighton, Nicki Lazzaro and Katie Smith had singles for Woodland and Smith pitched a five-hitter in defeat with three strikeouts and one walk.

At Sherman Station, Morgan Anderson reached on a one-out single in the sixth, stole second, and then scored on Mindy Libby’s single to left field to give host Katahdin the win.

Libby had a double and two singles while Angie Qualey singled twice for the Cougars.

Danielle Fitzpatrick doubled and singled while Alicia Dwyer singled twice for the Hawks.

At Houlton, Anna Lenentine knocked in seven runs on two triples and a double to power the Shiretowners past the Vikings.

Emily Cole hit two doubles and a triple for Houlton. Valerie Lenentine and Sarah Beasley each added a triple and a double. Kasey Cleary doubled twice and Danielle Hagerman singled and doubled.

Megan Cole-Karagory paced Caribou with four RBIs on a triple and a single. Samantha Greer, Jamie Landeen, Leah Drew and Molly Bell each hit two singles.

At Van Buren, Kristy Wright had a double, a single, and three RBIs to help lead the host Crusaders past the Eagles.

Ashley Brooker had three singles and an RBI while Louise Philbrick had two singles and an RBI.

Casey Caron had three singles and an RBI for the Eagles.

At Dyer Brook, Rhonda Chambers’ two-run triple in the fifth sparked a five-run inning to help the Warriors come back from six runs down.

Chambers also knocked an RBI single in the five-run sixth inning. Kristi Brooker hit three singles for Southern Aroostook, and Nicki Lyons had two doubles.

Cora Campbell paced the Hornets with two doubles and three RBIs. Pam Bennett hit a double and an RBI single.

Wisdom, Madawaska split

At Madawaska, the Pioneers of St. Agatha rolled to a 12-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader before the Owls bounced back to post a 9-5 victory in Game 2.

In the first game, Michelle Bourgoin rapped four singles and drove in five runs and Christa Lizotte stroked two doubles and a single and drove in another for the Pioneers. Emily Lavertu smacked a homer for Madawaska.

In the second game, Kay Gerard collected two RBIs on a triple, a single and a double for the Owls. Lavertu added three singles. Cindy Chamberland singled twice for Wisdom.

WA Raiders 8, Narraguagus 2

At Harrington, Nicole Stauffer pounded out four hits, two doubles and two singles to lead the Raiders of East Machias to the win.

Diana Bourdeau, who gave up six hits and two runs in the circle, also had two doubles and two singles for the winners. Miranda Fergerson hit three singles.

Brook Courchaine and Sarah Snider each had a triple and a single for the Knights.

Panthers sweep Fort Kent

At Mars Hill, Brittany Lundeen had four base hits and drove in six runs as Central Aroostook took two games from the Warriors.

In the first game, Angel Rideout tripled and had two singles and pitched a three-hitter, Jessica Long had a double, single and four RBIs, Ashley Clockedile had three singles and Jocelyn Carvell had two doubles for Central Aroostook.

In the second game, Stevi Fletcher had a triple, double, three singles, Sami Long doubled and singled four times and Lacy Bell had a double, three singles and three runs batted in to lead the Panthers.

Betsy Nadeau and Nicole Saucier had two singles apiece for Fort Kent.

Presque Isle, John Bapst split

At Coffin Field in Brewer, John Bapst scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game to post a 5-4 win but Presque Isle answered with an 18-11 win in the second game.

In the first game, Rebecca Stevens singled and doubled to pace the Crusaders’ attack. Lauren Wildeman doubled and drove in three runs for Presque Isle. Sarah Belden hit an RBI triple.

In the second game, Wildeman singled twice and drove in four runs, Belden doubled and singled twice and collected two RBIs and Sarah Geaghan doubled, singled and knocked in three more. Stevens singled and tripled and Nikki Novak singled and doubled for John Bapst of Bangor.

At Dyer Brook, Jeff Swallow and Corey Shields combined on a two-hitter as the Warriors downed the Hornets.

Swallow also contributed at the plate with a pair of singles. Matt McCluskey also singled twice for Southern Aroostook.

Bruce Oakes and Brandon Millett had a single apiece for Ashland.

At Sherman Station, junior lefty Matt Day struck out 12 and didn’t walk anybody in six innings of work and Hodgdon bunched seven hits into a seven-run fourth inning that erased a 3-2 deficit.

Evan Bither had a two-run single in that fourth-inning rally, Adam Bither hit an RBI triple and Kevin Carton had a run-scoring double.

Chris Blanchette had a double and two singles for the winners while Day and Ben Carton had two base hits apiece. Each had an RBI.

Mike Lane tripled and doubled and drove in two runs for Katahdin; Doug Atkinson doubled and singled and Chris Robinson had an RBI single.

At Machias, Billy Merchant tossed a five-hitter, striking out 11 and walking three, as the Royals rolled.

Randy Urquhart drilled a two-run homer to pace the offense for Jonesport-Beals. Alvin Beal and D.R. Alley added a triple and a single each.

Todd Stevens homered and singled for the Bulldogs. Jeff Copp added two singles and Kevin Loughlin singled.

Ryan Paradis stroked four singles and drove in three runs for the Pioneers of St. Agatha. Brad Picard singled and tripled.

At Fort Kent, Casey Bourgoin scored the tying run in the fifth and earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief to help lead the Warriors past Washburn.

In the fifth, Bourgoin singled and went to second on a throwing error. After stealing third, he scored on Casey Boucher’s groundout. A hit batter later, pinch-runner Tyler Marquis stole second and then scored on J.J. Pinette’s single.

Kirk Levesque led off the game with a home run and also singled for the Warriors. Bourgoin had two singles while Pinette also doubled.

Frank Plucker had three singles, Chris Tupper hit a double and a single, and Clint Carter singled twice for the Beavers.

Derek Patten had an RBI and two singles while Phil Smith had two singles and an RBI for Limestone.

John Bapst sweeps Presque Isle

At Brewer, Jesse McCree hit an infield single to score Brian Snyder from third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and lift the Crusaders to a 4-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader. The Crusaders won the second game 6-4.

In the first game, Zev Myerowitz tossed a four-hitter with two walks and one strikeout. Josh Gale took the loss for Presque Isle despite allowing four hits, walking two and striking out five.

In the second game, John Bapst’s James Strout smacked a two-run inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the sixth. He also singled. Myerowitz doubled and singled, and Tyler Jellison hit two singles. Joe Gahagan paced the Wildcats with three singles. Aaron Keirstead and Fred Bird added two singles apiece.

At Calais, Andy Frost belted a two-run homer to go with a single as the Blue Devils rolled to a five-inning victory.

Joe Footer hit two doubles, a single, and knocked in four runs for the Devils. Adam Pollock hit two RBI singles.

Marlon Lutz led the Dragons with a double, a triple, and three RBIs.
