BANGOR – A Bangor woman who allegedly tried to kill her 7-year-old son by feeding him 60 clonidine tablets pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder.

Dianna Jordan, 38, has been staying at Acadia Hospital since the incident last March. Her son is no longer in her custody.

Jordan entered the plea at Penobscot County Superior Court. No trial date has been set.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts said the mother gave her son 60 1-milligram tablets of clonidine, a drug used to treat high blood pressure and attention deficit disorder. She then took some of the pills herself as well as some Ritalin, he said. The incident occurred at their home on Sanford Street, the prosecutor said.

“Basically what happened is that she gave him the pills and then she took some pills,” Roberts said. “Her son became unconscious, and about two hours later she still was not.

“She became worried that he would die and she wouldn’t, so she tried to resuscitate him,” Roberts said.

The son was hospitalized but was released soon afterward.
