Butler helps Tigers hold off Shires

FORT FAIRFIELD – Nicole Erb and Ashlee Bubar combined on a two-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks as the Fort Fairfield softball team knocked off Houlton 3-1 in high school action Friday.

Miranda Butler hit a solo home run in the second inning for the Tigers. Terri Lynch had a fielder’s choice RBI in the third and the Tigers scored another run in the sixth on two errors and two walks.

Emily Cole singled and plated Sarah Beasley, who had also singled for the Shiretowners. Aimee Guy threw a one-hitter for a loss, striking out four and walking five.

At Harrington, Ashley Woodward paced the Knights in the circle and at the plate, throwing a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks, and doubling with an RBI.

Kate Farnsworth drove in two runs on two singles and a double. Brook Courchaine tripled and added two RBIs. Jen Strout hit a doubled and had one RBI.

Samantha Davis hit a single for the Tigerettes of Eastport.

Fort Kent 4, Wisdom 3

At Fort Kent, Melissa Morneault’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Melissa Plourde for the winning run as the Warriors edged the Pioneers.

Meaghan Minzy doubled and singled and Betsy Nadeau had a pair of singles for Fort Kent.

Shannon Berube doubled and had two singles for Wisdom of St. Agatha.

At Machias, Nicole Stauffer tripled in the top of the eighth to plate Diana Bourdeau for the winning run as the Raiders held off the Bulldogs.

Bourdeau earned the pitching win, giving up two hits and no walks and striking out 13. Jennifer Savard and Meredith Poisson each singled twice for Washington Academy of East Machias.

Leann Pritchard and Tracy Guptill each singled for Machias. Guptill had the lone RBI.

GHCA sweeps East Grand

At Madawaska, Sarah Wallace and Sarah Jago each had a double and three singles to pace Greater Houlton Christian Academy to a 24-12 win over East Grand in the second game of a doubleheader. Greater Houlton Christian won the first game 16-0.

In the second game, Wallace drove in two runs and Jago knocked in one. Staci Bell and Danielle Kelly each had a triple and two singles apiece. Bell had two RBIs.

Becky Gilman and Sara Dow had three singles and two RBIs apiece for East Grand of Danforth and Amanda Godley doubled and singled.

In the opener, Darcy Nason threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out five and walking one, and she also had a triple and two singles and knocked in two runs.

Amy Wallace had two doubles and a single and knocked in one run and Sarah and Megan Jago had three singles each and combined for three RBIs.

At Blue Hill, the Eagles jumped out to an 11-run lead in the fourth en route to the win over the Vikings.

Nikki Keniston had two home runs and drove in six runs, Denise Erland homered, singled and had five RBIs and Jamie Wood doubled twice and drove in two runs for George Stevens Academy.

Tina Barton had a triple, double and three RBIs for Searsport. Chelsea Herrick singled and drove in two runs.

At Machias, Todd Stevens’ run-scoring single, his fifth of the game, enabled Machias to avenge an earlier loss at East Machias.

Will Hasselmann and Kevin Loughlin had singled to open the inning and set the stage for Stevens’ game-winner. Loughlin had a homer and four singles; Hasselmann singled three times and Jeff Copp and Matt Cobb each singled twice.

Ryan Maker had a solo homer, a game-tying RBI double in the seventh and a single for the Raiders of East Machias. Adam Demarest, Brent Colbeth and Mike Franz had two base hits apiece.

At Madawaska, Phil Smith fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks, and added a triple to power the Crusaders past the Owls.

Sean Violette led Van Buren with three singles, a triple and three RBIs. Tyler Hews tripled and singled, and Stacy Ayotte added two singles.

Marc Garcia and Bryan Daigle singled for Madawaska’s only hits.

At Fort Kent, J.J. Pinette had two singles and four RBIs as the Warriors downed the Pioneers.

Corey Bourgoin had three singles, while Lance Morin and Jared Boucher had two singles apiece for Fort Kent.

Brad Picard homered and singled and Aaron Gervais singled twice for Wisdom of St. Agathe.

At Hodgdon, Matt Day smacked a solo homer to lead off the four-run fourth as the Hawks held off the Hornets for their 12th win.

Derek Nickerson knocked in two runs on a double and a single for Hodgdon. Chris Stewart doubled and singled. Three Hawks pitchers scattered three hits.

Eric Ham hit an RBI double for Ashland. Bruce Oakes and Alan Hitchcock added a single apiece.

At Harrington, Gabe Stewart’s three-run homer, Andrew Checker’s two-run double and Mike Beal’s run-scoring double highlighted an eight-run fourth-inning rally that broke the game open for the Knights.

Jason Snider had two single and Gabe Checker, Andrew’s brother, scattered seven hits and four runs over five innings for the win. He struck out two and didn’t walk anybody.

Cliff Urquhart’s solo homer and Gerald Holmes’ two singles sparked the Tigers of Eastport.

At Fort Fairfield, the Shiretowners took advantage of 13 Tigers errors to roll to the win.

Mike Lenentine had a home run and a single and Jared Sylvia tripled and singled for Houlton.

At Howland, senior righthander Buddy Leavitt hurled a five-inning one-hitter and Shane Priest belted a three-run homer in the six-run second inning to power the Pirates.

Leavitt struck out five and walked two. Randy Burgess had three singles and an RBI for Piscataquis of Guilford. Ben Smith hit a two-run triple and Leavitt and Dennis Glynn had two singles apiece. Leavitt added an RBI.

Freshman Jody Thompson hit a single in his first varsity start.

At Winslow, Devin Potvin’s three-run double keyed a six-run second inning as the Lions beat the Black Raiders.

Wes Zemrack led Winslow with a home run and a single.

At Bar Harbor, Basil Mahaney scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a two-out Foxcroft Academy error.

Mahaney had a double, single and two RBIs while Chris Reed doubled, singled and had an RBI and Gabe Westphal had a pair of singles and an RBI for the Trojans.

Seth Gabano singled three times and drove in two runs and Danny White had two singles and two RBIs for the Ponies.

At Blue Hill, Travis Mercier’s two-out double in the top of the eighth inning drove in Pasco Grove and Ben Relyea as the Vikings handed the Eagles their first loss of the year.

Grove had a double and three singles for Searsport.

Mark Clapp had a double, single and an RBI and Jake Lowell singled twice and drove in a run for George Stevens.

At Newcastle, the Windjammers outhit the Eagles 12-3 en route to the win.

Tom Dennen led the Camden Hills offense with a double, single and three RBIs. Will Dennen singled twice, drove in two runs and pitched the win. Brady Butler knocked in two runs on a double and a single. Brian Fitzpatrick and Abe Dugal singled twice and added an RBI apiece.

Steve Hannah, Ben Buckland and Billy Pierce each singled once for Lincoln Academy.

Brad Hebert and Jared Disantis hit back-to-back singles in the second inning for the Wolverines of East Millinocket.
