HARWICH, Mass. – Jason Dority drove in three runs on a double and a single to lead the University of Southern Maine baseball team past Salve Regina 5-2 in an elimination game at the NCAA Div. III New England Regional tourney Friday.
Southern Maine will play Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
Jody Curcuru doubled twice and drove in a run. Brian Marshall hit two singles for the winners. Mark Russell picked up the win in 51/3 innings of work, scattering seven hits, walking two and striking out eight.
Damian Costantino hit three singles and drove in two runs for Salve Regina (R.I).

USM’s Derenburger sets record
At Springfield, Mass., Southern Maine’s Miranda Derenburger set a school heptathlon record and the Huskies finished 20th out of 43 teams at the ECAC Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield College.
Derenburger amassed 3,996 points in the seven events and finished second. It was the fourth time this year she has broken the school heptathlon record.
USM’s Nicole Freeman cleared 10-3/4 in the pole vault to tie for sixth place. Freeman, Deedra Beveridge, Lauren McPartlin and Heather Coombs grabbed sixth place with a 51.33 in the 400-meter relay.
