Bucksport High School
BUCKSPORT – Graduation exercises will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Ralph Jewett Gymnasium.
Valedictorian is Abe Grindle, son of Terrance and Cynthia Grindle of Bucksport. He has taken part in soccer, indoor track and spring track, was a captain three years on the varsity soccer team and was active on the BHS Band, where he is vice president, and Jazz Band. He hiked to the top of Mt. Elbert and to the Grand Canyon with the Outing Club and won a league championship with the BHS Math Team. He joined the Student Council this year and became a member of the National Honor Society. He received a National Merit Scholarship and was a Presidential Scholar nominee. He was voted Student of the Month at BHS. He is a dedicated member of his church high school youth group and is an employee of Downeast Lawncare. He will attend Saint Louis University, St. Louis, Mo., to study aerospace engineering.
Salutatorian is Jean Thompson, daughter of Thomas and Barbara Thompson. She has run cross-country four years and was a senior cross-country co-captain. She also is active in track, the BHS Math Team, School Friends, and the National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Finalist and received the Principal’s Award. She will attend the State University of New York at New Paltz to study art education.
First Honor Essayist is Justin Peters, son of Vance and Cheryl Peters of Bucksport. He is a member of the Outing Club, martial arts, Senior Executive Council, and Golf Team. He takes part in the Reading/Writing exchange program, connecting AP English students with grade one pupils at the Miles Lane School. He has traveled to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado as a member of the Outing Club. He is a member of Dirigo Boys State and has received the Maine Scholars Achievement Award and the DAR Award. He will attend the University of Maine.
Second Honor Essayist is Andrea Pelletier, daughter of Ray and Mae Pelletier. She was a member of the Math Team, Outing Club, National Honor Society, and Jazz Band. She is Jazz Band president and captain of Varsity cross-country and indoor track teams. She was class secretary, a Dirigo Girls State Delegate and won the Maine Scholars Achievement Award. She will attend the University of Maine to study biology and pre-medicine.
