HOLYOKE, Mass. – ISO New England Inc., a nonprofit company that oversees the region’s electrical grid and wholesale electricity markets, has named Gordon van Welie president and chief executive officer.

Van Welie, a former vice president and general manager of the power systems control division at Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution LLC, will take office June 1. He will succeed acting CEO William W. Berry, who will remain chairman of the board.

Van Welie also has held several positions at Eskom, the South African state utility.

The company also announced it has promoted Stephen G. Whitley to senior vice president and chief operating officer and Kathleen A. Carrigan to senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
