Sumner Memorial High School, East Sullivan

EAST SULLIVAN – Graduation exercises will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Sumner Memorial High School gymnasium.

Valedictorian is Elizabeth A. Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Young of Gouldsboro. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has won the Maine Scholars Achievement Award. She was elected secretary of her class and has been active in varsity soccer, basketball and softball four years. She has taken part in jazz band for three years and marching band four years. She will attend St. Joseph’s College.

Salutatorian is Joshua T. Bridges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bridges Sr. of Gouldsboro. He is a member of the National Honor Society and won the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, Maine Scholars Achievement Award and the MPA Principal’s Award. He is a member of the outdoor track and cross-country teams and has taken part in band, jazz band, French club and drama club for four years. He also was a member of the Student Impact Team and served an internship at MDI Biological Laboratory. He will attend the University of Maine, Orono.

First honor essayist is Briana Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marshall of Sorrento. She is a member of the National Honor Society, won the Xerox Humanitarian Award and was HOBY Ambassador. She has been a member of the student council four years and served as president of the Maine State Student Councils this year. She was a member of the varsity tennis team four years, and joined the World Sports Exchange in a tennis tour of England last summer. She will attend Bowdoin College.

Second honor essayist is Cathy S. Emerton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Emerton of Franklin. She has been a member of the varsity soccer team four years and the varsity softball team three years. She took part in chorus four years. She will attend either Rivier College or the University of Southern Maine.
