Glynn sparks PCHS win

GUILFORD – Dennis Glynn pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven, to lead the Piscataquis Community Pirates to a 9-1 schoolboy baseball victory over the Lee Academy Pandas Tuesday.

Buddy Leavitt paced Piscataquis with four singles and an RBI. Randy Burgess hit a two-run home run in the sixth.

Nate Dow and Blair Emery singled twice each for Lee Academy.

At Rangeley, Corey Hibbard went 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, and three RBIs as the Cavs of Bingham cruised.

Jeremy Jones had two RBI hits, a double and a single for Valley.

Gary Alexander hit a double for the Lakers, and Ryan Aylesworth added a single.

At Brewer, lefthander Chad Gomm improved his record to 5-1 with relief help from Josh Caldwell and the Witches took the lead for good with three first-inning runs on RBI singles by Chris Cote and Justin Spencer and Joel Barrett’s sacrifice fly.

Gomm and Caldwell combined on a five-hitter with six strikeouts and five walks.

Tony Doucette and Dana Carey had two singles each and Carey had an RBI. Sean Collins had an RBI double and Adam Freeman doubled.

Mike Jacques’ double and single led Nokomis and Brannen Gee doubled.

At Mount Desert, Jacob Knight doubled twice and knocked in two runs to power the Golden Bucks past the Trojans.

Chris McHale singled and added two RBIs for Bucksport. Marcus Boober singled twice and drove in a run, and Danny Nason added an RBI single.

Jon Dow, Brandon Colbeth and Gabe Westphal each singled for MDI.

Mariners sweep Royals

At Jonesport, the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners improved to 7-5 with 10-6 and 10-7 victories over Jonesport-Beals.

Daryl Dunhan paced the Mariners in the first game with three singles. Evan Haskell chipped in with two singles and an RBI and Justin Boyce added two singles.

Darren Kelley and Alvin Beal each notched two singles for the Royals.

Eric Ray paced the Mariners in the second game with three singles and two RBIs. Josh Bolton added a single, double and three RBIs and Boyce notched a single, double and triple.

Hermon, Sumner triumph

At Ellsworth, Phil Cayford’s two-run double paced Hermon to a 5-2 win over Ellsworth in the opener before Mike Hardy’s two, two-run singles led Sumner to a 9-5 triumph over Ellsworth in the nightcap.

In the opener, Cayford’s double and three errors helped to produce four third-inning runs for Hermon.

Cayford and Reid Frye spaced 10 hits. Cayford also had a single to go with his double while Mike Ketchum and Josh Shorey contributed RBI doubles.

Chad Smith had a triple and two singles for Ellsworth while Justin Gott and Chase Buckingham had three singles and an RBI apiece.

In the nightcap, Hardy had his two-run singles in the three-run fourth inning and four-run sixth inning to break the game open.

Dustin Young had two singles and an RBI for Sumner and Mike Cowperthwaite went the distance for the win, allowing eight hits with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Mike Archer had three base hits for Ellsworth and Garrett Hardison had two more. Each drove in a run.

At Lincoln, Matt Libby and Billy Kane each had two singles and a double to help lead the Central Red Devils of Corinth to a big win over Mattanawcook Academy.

Joe Allen had two singles and an RBI for the Red Devils.

J.J. Murchison singled and doubled to pace Mattanawcook Academy’s Lynx.

At Hampden, Josh Johnson smacked a three-run homer in the third inning, part of a 17-hit attack in the Rams’ win.

Johnson added a single for Bangor. Josh Bouchard singled twice and drove in two runs. Justin Libbey hit a double and a single, and Jim Shea singled twice.

Aaron Morrell paced the Broncos with two doubles and an RBI.

At Orono, Mike Merritt’s single in the sixth led to the game-winner as the Red Riots swept their rivals for the season.

Merritt singled, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Old Town catcher Roger Cole attempted to throw Merritt out, but the throw went into left field, allowing the eventual game-winning run to score.

Andy Pease and Chris Brissette singled for the Indians’ only hits.

At East Millinocket, Keith Champion rapped a double and three singles (1 RBI) and Brandon Saucier doubled three times with three RBIs as the Howlers won.

Marshall Wakefield hit a double and two singles (2 RBIs) and Ben Sereyko singled three times for Penobscot Valley of Howland behind winner Cody Thompson, who pitched four innings of shutout relief.

Pat Jamo hit an RBI double for Schenck.

At Kenduskeag, Diane Aucoin smacked a solo home run as the Lakers knocked off the Highview Christian Knights of Charleston.

Amber Lavigne knocked two singles for the winners.

Heather Niles led the Knights with a two-run triple.

At Brewer, Katie Freeman smacked three singles and knocked in three runs as the Witches prevailed.

Pitcher Sherri Capponi hit an RBI single for Brewer, as did Katie Reed. Sandra DeFilipp and Emily McLaughlin each had two singles, with McLaughlin knocking in two runs. Caitlin Coutts pounded out three singles.

Laura Pelkey, Danielle Clark, Megan Randlett and Michelle Murray each singled twice for the Warriors of Newport. Murray had two RBIs.

At Monmouth, Emily Gauthier scattered seven hits while striking out 11 and walking one to lead Monmouth.

Lisa Hasch tripled and singled for the winners and Katie Brown and Alicia Drake each added two singles.

Jessica Brady tripled and singled for Forest Hills and Kristie Krukowski doubled and singled.

At Jonesport, Crystal Davis drove in four runs with three singles and Abby Alley’s two-run triple sparked a seven-run fourth-inning rally that erased a 5-4 deficit in the nightcap.

Monique Emerson (2 RBIs) and Chelsie Carver (RBI) had two singles each.

Hollan Oliver had a double and three singles with two RBIs for Deer Isle-Stonington. Megan Wiberg and Heather Bray had two singles and an RBI each.
