Letter

Kenduskeag’s defense

In response to the letter from Charlotte Lugdon and Shirley Harvey (“Take back town,” BDN, May 12-13), let me assure readers that the dance class was given polite, ample, written notice to relocate. They were also told if they wanted to continue at the same site, they could do so if they would change the time to after regular business hours because we are unable to facilitate their parking requirements. We also suggested three other potential sites close by with adequate parking for the needs of the class, of which both writers are affiliated. In no way are the municipal officials in Kenduskeag opposed to children’s welfare as stated in their letter.

In a small town with very limited resources, business and contractual obligations must take priority over recreation at the municipal office. We attempt to do our best with our limited facilities and there are times when we are not able to accommodate every request. Our staff and the U.S. Postal Service are courteous and accommodating to residents and patrons at our shared facility.

In all fairness, the municipal offices in Kenduskeag currently and since the 1950’s have done a worthy and honorable job for the community and have always considered the welfare of the children. We have a very active and responsive Recreation Committee. They work diligently on a number of programs that benefit our children. They are addressing additional interests among the different age groups and our municipal officials support and encourage participation in our programs.

One of our former, most devoted town fathers recently stated, “Kenduskeag is a good place to raise kids.” He’s right.
