UMFK to offer summer nature day camp series

FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent’s academic outreach division will offer Fish River nature day camps for pupils entering grades two through five. The series of camps will run July 9-Aug. 3 and provide educational events, indoor and outdoor activities and hands-on fun.

The first session, “Tall, Tall Trees,” will run July 9-13 and explore tree identification, life cycles, how trees get their food and nutrients and the many uses of wood.

The second session, “Wonderful Wildlife,” planned for July 16-20, teaches animal identification, what animals eat and where they live.

“Water, Water Everywhere,” to be held July 23-27, explains water cycles, ocean and lake ecology and the importance of water.

“Outdoor Adventures,” from July 30 to Aug. 3, focuses on fun things to do outdoors such as stargazing, how to camp, campfire stories and hiking.

Pupils will meet at the UMFK Sports Center, Room G118, at 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. The fee is $45 per camp session and includes daily lunches. Children may enroll in as many camps as they would like.

Registration can be made by mail or telephone. Class size is limited to 10 pupils so early registration is encouraged. For registration forms or more information, contact Don Eno at 834-7835 by June 15.
