Chrysler recalls 2000, 2001 Neons, citing faulty brake hose

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler AG is voluntarily recalling 2000 and 2001 model Neons to replace a brake booster vacuum hose.

The Auburn Hills-based automaker said Friday that over time, contact with oil may cause the vacuum’s hose to swell and loosen from the intake manifold, resulting in a loss of power brake assist and an increased idle speed.

Affected brakes would be operational but a driver would need to use more pressure on the brake pedal to stop the car, Chrysler said.

Company engineers discovered the problem through the analysis of returned parts. There have been no reported injuries related to the problem, the automaker said.
