Winslow High School

WINSLOW – Winslow High School has announced the names of its valedictorian and salutatorian. The Class of 2001 will graduate at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the high school.

Valedictorian Katie Gagne has been involved with school activities throughout her high school years. She was class president during her sophomore and junior years, played on the softball team from her freshman through senior years, was on the swimming team for four years and was captain in her senior year, and was yearbook editor in her senior year.

She was involved in the drama club, the Shakespeare Festival, the math team, was a member of the College Prep Division Champions at the Regional Economics Challenge, sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, was the “Mood Indigo” production swing dance leader and prom head in her junior year.

She has received an academic letter for being on 10 honor rolls, the Maine Scholar’s Award from the University of Maine, the Maine Principal’s Association Award 2001, the April 2001 Student of the Month Award, and also received a Top 10 Scholar’s Award in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference.

In the fall she will attend Colby College.

Salutatorian Chris Nassar’s most notable academic honors include the Bausch & Lomb Science Award and the Xerox Award for Humanities and Social Science. He was selected as a member of the National Honor Society.

He wrestled at Winslow High School for four years and was captain of the team in his senior year. As a junior, he won the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference tournament at 120 pounds and was voted KVAC Tournament Outstanding Wrestler. He went on to place first in the Eastern Maine Class B wrestling tournament and second at the state Class B tournament.

He played football for four years and was a member of this year’s Class B football championship team. He ran track his junior and senior years.

He plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology and major in electrical engineering.
