Miami Sol waive Jamie Cassidy From Staff and Wire Service Reports

The Miami Sol waived former University of Maine center Jamie Cassidy Saturday, one day before WNBA rosters had to be down to 11 players.

Friday’s 67-57 exhibition loss to Orlando in the final preseason game “clarified things for me,” Sol coach Ron Rothstein told the Miami Herald.

“We felt that the other people had played better than [her],” he said. “Jamie developed well last year . . . but we didn’t know we would get Ruth [Riley] and Levys [Torres] in the draft, or that we would trade for Tracy Reid in the offseason, or that [Elena] Baranova would make it all way back from her knee injury.”

Cassidy, who was signed as a free agent last season, played in 22 games for the Sol and averaged 3.4 points. In three exhibition games this year, she averaged 12.3 minutes and 5.6 points and grabbed four total rebounds.
