LEWISTON – Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2001 at Lewiston High School will be held outdoors at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Don Roux Athletic Complex.
Valedictorian Jessica M. Sawyer has received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, La Survivance Francaise Book Award, Maine State Scholar Award, Harvard University Book Award, and she was a top scorer on the National Mathematics Achievement Exam. She is a participant of the Foreign Language Club, Key Club and National Honor Society and has been in the Young Writers at Bates program. A day care worker and provider at Lever’s Day Care, she plans to major in elementary education after graduation.
Salutatorian Mae A. Tobin-Hochstadt has been a national qualifier to the National Forensics League national competition, recipient of the Yale Book Award and the Science Department Award, state runner-up in the state mock trial competition, Student Senate member and governor of Girls State. An active athlete, she has participated on the track, tennis and swim teams, receiving the Most Improved on Swim Team Award her junior and senior years. She served as captain of the NFL Speech and Debate team her senior year. She teaches Hebrew at the Temple Shalom Synagogue and has been a lifeguard at Bates College. Tobin-Hochstadt plans to attend college and, later, law school. She hopes to become a lawyer.
DEXTER – Dexter Regional High School has announced its honor parts for the graduating Class of 2001.
Valedictorian Heather Currier is the daughter of Edward and Rebecca Currier of Dexter. She was secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of Key Club, president of the French Club, member of the math team, Student Council, Jazz Band, and recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. She plans to study journalism at the University of Maine.
Salutatorian Rachel Goetze is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Goetze of Exeter. She was class president for three years, president of National Honor Society, president of the band, member of Key Club, Spanish Club, math team, and the yearbook and prom committees. She was involved in Girl Scouts and student volunteerism, was active in music and drama, and captain of the varsity cheering and tennis teams for two years. Goetze attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference and Dirigo Girls State and was awarded the Maine Principals’ Award. She plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono with a major in biology and a minor in performing arts.
