BROOKSVILLE – A walk exploring the bird life of Holbrook Island Sanctuary state park will be led by Michael Good of Down East Nature Tours at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 9.

Bar Harbor-based Down East Nature Tours specializes in individualized nature and bird-watching tours, helping people discover the plants and wildlife, specializing in native and migrating birds, of Down East Maine.

The 1,230-acre Holbrook Island Sanctuary, which borders Penobscot Bay south of Bucksport, was donated by Anita Harris in order to preserve the special environment and to encourage its use by other nature lovers. In order to retain the raw nature of the park it features old roads, paths and animal trails that lead visitors to explore the shoreline, marshes, ponds and forests.

Those interested in the bird walk should meet at the Back Shore parking area, wear sturdy shoes and bring binoculars. For information call the sanctuary headquarters at 326-4012.
