Best for Kenduskeag

We find it necessary to let the citizens of Kenduskeag know what the selectmen feel is best for our town. The selectmen gave Morita’s School of Dance permission in September 2000 to hold dance classes on Thursday nights from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from October 2000 through May 2001.

Classes have been held continuously throughout the winter. On April 12 during the dance class a note was sent to Morita signed by the selectmen saying it was inconvenient because of parking to hold classes at the fire station any longer. This was done without any valid explanation or personal contact.

The dancers have been preparing for a May recital and have had only four more classes. This was explained to the selectmen who still refused to allow them access to the hall and notified Morita by a telephone message on her answering machine. The selectmen said they have to do what is best for the town. Apparently allowing dance classes involving youth is not an activity that is best for the town. Why, after seven months, is there all of a sudden a big problem with parking?

We would like to thank the Kenduskeag Grange for coming to our rescue with their community spirit to allow the dancers to use their hall for four more weeks to get ready for their May recital.
