WASHINGTON – The Navy has awarded the DD 21 Alliance – a group composed of Bath Iron Works and Ingalls Shipbuilding — $6,740,494 to augment a previous contract for the DD 21 Permanent Magnet Motor Design. BIW will lead the effort.

“This contract is an important step toward the development of the DD 21,” said U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in announcing the award Tuesday. “The DD 21, an innovative land-attack destroyer, will advance our military technology and allow our troops to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”

Fifty percent of the work will be performed by the Blue Team, led by BIW; the remaining 50 percent will be performed by the Gold Team, headed by Ingalls Shipbuilding based in Pascagoula, Miss.
