BRUNSWICK – About 45 people will be out of work when the Porteous department store closes its doors this month at the Cook’s Corner Mall.
Joe Hoskins, a Porteous representative from Texas who is assisting with the store closure, said Thursday that the company, based in Fort Worth, Texas, chose not to renew its lease at the Cook’s Corner Mall.
The Brunswick location opened in August 1989. The employees were notified of the closure Wednesday morning, said Yvonne Lamberty, the Brunswick store manager.
Three other Porteous stores in Maine – in Auburn, Bangor and Presque Isle – will remain open.
