Thomas powers Hampden victory Eagles, Pandas, Tigers post wins

HAMPDEN – Evan Thomas cranked a solo home run, a two-run double and RBI single to power the No. 11 Hampden Academy Broncos to 10-5 victory over the No. 14 Medomak Valley Panthers in a Class A baseball prelim Friday.

Evan Thomas hit a solo home run, a two-run double and an RBI single to lead Hampden to victory.

Aaron Morrell followed up with two doubles, and Kyle Dalton contributed a double and a single.

Jon Burns hit a three-run homerun in the third for Medomak Valley, and Carlos Arteaga recorded a solo homerun.

At Houlton, two-out RBI singles in the fifth inning by Chance Singleton and Zeb Potter gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead en route to the upset.

The Shiretowners cut the lead to 3-2, then loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but couldn’t push across the tying run.

Josh Geyez of the Eagles of South China rapped two singles and also had an RBI, and Singleton had two singles and scored twice. Starter Jesse Wing pitched four shutout innings to pick up the win.

Mike Lenentine posted an RBI single in the sixth for Houlton.

At Hermon, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead en route to the upset.

Mike Archer cracked a triple, double and single with four RBIs to pace the Eagles. Seth Mayo added three singles and scored three times.

Ryan Garland and Matt Watson each singled twice for the Hawks.

At Rockland, Greg Harjula notched a two-run double in the sixth inning to give Rockland the margin of victory.

Rick Bagnall hit three singles for the Tigers, Shane Dow hit a double and a single, and Parker Tootil singled twice.

Brad Dalton belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning for Mount Desert Island. Basil Mahaney singled twice.

At Fort Kent, Shane Eddy and Travis Huff hit doubles in the seventh inning to push Mount View to victory.

Ryan Harnden notched two singles for the Mustangs of Thorndike.

Kirk Levesque hit a solo homer in the sixth inning for Fort Kent. Corey Bourgoin singled twice.

At Caribou, Andrew Susee’s single with two outs in the seventh inning scored Ben Paytas with the winning run.

Jerry Shanahan ripped a solo home run and two singles and had two RBIs, and Bryce McCrossin added two singles and three RBIs. Shanahan also earned the win with 4? innings of no-hit relief. He struck out 11.

Jake Laselle paced Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield with a solo homer and a single, and Chad Bennett smacked a solo homer.

At East Sullivan, Mike Cowperthwaite tossed a two-hitter, striking out 17 while walking only two, as the Tigers downed the Owls.

Blake Alley and Robert Loker had RBI singles in the first inning to provide Cowperthwaite with the only runs he would need. Loker finished the game with three singles and two runs scored.

Kevin Dube had a single and an RBI and Tad McHenry singled for Madawaska.

At Lee, Blair Emery’s solo home run with one out in the sixth ignited a four-run rally that gave the Pandas the victory.

Emery also singled to back relief winner Jeremy Ham (5-1), who struck out five in two innings. Frank Severance socked a double and two singles for Lee Academy, while Tristan Blanchard and Bruce Stevens added two singles each.

Ryan Lee singled twice for Schenck of East Millinocket and Adam Dempsey hit an RBI double.

Chuck Wooten recorded Penquis’ lone hit with a single in the fourth.

At Dexter, Pasco Grove drove in three runs on two singles to lead Searsport to victory.

Marcus Quisenberry hit a solo home run in the fourth. Spencer Graton and Jerod Kronholm recorded two singles and one RBI each for the Vikings.

Dan Fields drove in two runs on two singles for Dexter. Ross Morrison recorded three singles and one RBI, and Adam Russell hit two doubles and a single for the Tigers.

At Washburn, Chris Tupper’s two-run home run in the third tied the game and his leadoff double sparked a four-run fifth as the Beavers beat the Dragons.

Tupper also scattered seven hits, striking out 11. Josh Matowitz (2 RBIs), Clint Carter (1 RBI) and Kent Corey stroked two hits apiece for Washburn. Carter and Matowitz had RBI singles in the fifth-inning rally, while Seth Milton laid down an RBI squeeze bunt.

Rick Roussell (2 RBIs) and loser Marlon Lutz (1 RBI) tripled and singled for Woodland.

At Presque Isle, April Buchhiet drove in three runs on a double and a single to lead Mt. Blue to victory.

Kim Drosdik and Katie Belanger hit two singles each for the Cougars of Farmington.

Ashley Putnam notched a two-run double for Presque Isle in the sixth to tighten the scoring gap.

At Fort Kent, Sam Grier, Heather Fortin and Megan Cole-Karagory each drove in a run in the sixth inning to give Caribou the margin of victory.

Liz Andrews paced the Vikings with four singles and three RBIs. Michelle Snell also hit four singles and Leah Drew, Fortin and Cole-Karagory recorded two singles apiece.

Center fielder Melissa Plourde made four crucial catches for the Warriors and Meaghan Minzy hit two singles.

At Mount Desert Island, Jessi Mayo and Jani Dillon posted RBI singles as the Trojans posted a four-run first inning en route to the victory.

Heather Graves contributed a double and single for MDI. Bracey Barker tossed a three-hitter, struck out seven and walked none to gain the win.

Mary Thibeault led the Red Riots with an RBI single.

At Searsport, the Howlers of Howland got an RBI single from Toni Babineau and scored another run on an error in the top of the seventh to register an upset of the Vikings.

Crystal Levesque and Sharon Drost each hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to spark Penobscot Valley’s rally.

Lura Carroll led Searsport with three singles and two RBIs. Erica Curtis doubled, singled and drove in a run.

At Dexter, Karen Nelson rapped a double and a single and pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts to lift the Tigers to victory.

Brittany Veazie knocked in four runs with a triple and a single and Briley Belanger singled twice for Dexter.

Caterina Riitano paced Piscataquis of Guilford with two singles.

At Deer Isle, Sarah Irving and Amanda Carter led the Bulldogs with two singles and two RBIs apiece.

Meaghan Wiberg led the Mariners with a triple, single and four RBIs. Hollan Oliver knocked in a run on three singles, and Roz Santospago recorded a double, a single, and an RBI.

At East Machias, Diana Bourdeau fired a no-hitter, striking out four and walking three, as the Raiders downed the Eagles.

Nicole Stauffer drove in five runs on three singles for Washington Academy. Meredith Poisson had two singles and two RBIs, and Ali Tuttle singled twice and drove in three runs. Miranda Fergerson and Andrea Govoni had a double and two RBIs each.

At Jonesport, the Dragons pounded out 18 hits to roll over the Royalettes.

Edwina Huwa had four singles for Woodland. Julia Knights singled three times and Alicia Vose had a double and two singles. Nicki Lazaro and Lisa Kneeland each hit two singles.

Naomi Chandler, Shafay Look and Sabrina Stewart had two singles apiece for Jonesport-Beals.
