Medway man injured when hit by pickup

MEDWAY – A 34-year-old Medway man was hospitalized early Sunday morning after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking along Route 157.

Allen Emery of Medway was taken by an East Millinocket ambulance to Millinocket Regional Hospital as the result of the 1:16 a.m. accident, Police Chief Garold Cramp said.

Emery later was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was reported to be in serious condition Sunday afternoon.

Cramp said the accident between the pedestrian and the pickup truck remains under investigation.

The police chief said Emery, who had left a function at the DAV Hall, was walking east along the roadway when he was struck by a westbound pickup truck operated by Peter Paoletti, 42, of Medway.

Paoletti was driving a 1996 S-10 pickup truck. The accident occurred near the entrance to the Medway Middle School.

“He [Emery] hit the front of the vehicle and went up onto the vehicle into the windshield,” the chief said.

Cramp said blood-alcohol tests were conducted on both Emery and Paoletti. The chief said the tests are standard procedure in a serious personal-injury accident.

As the result of the collision, the chief said, there was damage to the driver’s side, hood and windshield of the pickup truck. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
