Hampden Academy

Graduation exercises will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at the Skehan Center, Hampden Academy.

Valedictorian is Laura Openshaw, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Openshaw of Hampden. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, coeditor of the yearbook, and has taken part in band, Maine Scholars Day, Math Team, dramatics, Junior Classical League and the Civil Rights Team. She will attend Harvard University.

Salutatorian is Justin Russell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Russell of Hampden. He has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years and was coeditor of the yearbook. He has taken part in the Math Team, Key Club, Maine Scholars Day and golf. He will attend the University of Maine.

Honor essayist is Katherine Waite, daughter of Anne Smith of Hampden, and James Waite, also of Hampden. She has been a member of the National Honor Society two years and taken part in Advocates for Student Awareness, French Club, Maine Scholars Day, yearbook and tennis. She will attend Boston College.

Honor graduates maintaining A averages over four years are Michelle Bernhardt, Jessica Blake, Courtney Bridges, Jessica Chandler, Amanda Gamble, Sara Gerry, Hans Hassell, Peter Hastings, Nicole Libby, Shelley Megquier, Tara Morin, Aaron Morrell, Anita Ng, Sean O’Connell, William Olver, Laura Openshaw, Sara Pullen, Camden Ramsay, Justin Russell, Alex Temple, Jennifer Tripp, Katherine Waite and Sara Weaver.
