George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill
Graduation exercises will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 10, on the George Stevens Academy front lawn.
Valedictorians are Marisa Benoit, daughter of Richard and Sarah Benoit of Brooksville, and Marisol Trowbridge, daughter of Paul and Jennifer Trowbridge of Sedgwick. Salutatorians are Emma Larkins, daughter of David and Nikki Larkins of Orland, and J.M. Modisette, son of Jim and Ruth Modisette of Penobscot.
Benoit is a member of the National Honor Society, sailing team, civil rights team, presidential classroom, Commission for Ethics and Responsible Student Behavior, Spanish club, student council, is co-editor of Literary Magazine, and took part in the Haystack silkscreen exhibit and writers symposium. She has won the Seven Sisters Book Award, Hugh O’Brien Youth Award, 2001 Principal’s Award, 2000 Maine Scholars Award, and was part of the team in the 2000 nationals for high school sailing at Long Beach, Calif. She will attend Yale University, New Haven, Conn.
Trowbridge is a member of the National Honor Society, sailing team, math team, Spanish club, drama club, is a National Merit Commended student, a harpist, and took part in the Haystack art workshops, Haystack mentorship programs, and went to Guatemala for IS 2001. She was part of the team in the 2000 nationals for high school sailing in Long Beach, Calif., won a 2000 Maine Scholars Award, published a poem, “My Soul is Like My Hair,” in the 2001 edition of American High School Poets, won the Colby College Book Award, the Barking Foundation Writer’s Award for 2001, was chosen State Level Essayist for the NSSAR Knight Essay Contest 2001, and was elected a member of the 2000 All New England Sailing Team. She will attend Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass.
Larkins is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, math team, is a National Merit Scholar, and took part in Haystack mentorships and karate. She won the Williams College Book Award, the All Festival Cast Award for Drama and the Maine Scholars Award. She will attend Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif.
Modisette is a member of the National Honor Society, sailing team, soccer team, math team, is a National Merit Commended student, and took part in Haystack programs. He was part of the sailing team in the 2000 nationals for high school sailing in Long Beach, Calif., won the Junior Math and Science Award, Maine Scholars Award, and was chosen a member of the All New England Sailing Team. He will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.
